Packed Terrace

Was fun standing with with fellow Saddlers today, brought back some memories

The day is coming when it will be a thing of historyšŸ„²

I actually donā€™t think it will be, what with the increased move towards safe standing etc, thereā€™s no appetite to make stadia all seater anymore.

Yes, maybe youā€™re right. Would be a shame if the terrace disappeared from uk football

The lower F2G should be made back into rail setting, has that question been asked at one of the supporters forums?

Yes. I think the answer is basically that the lower tier has seats retrofitted onto the old terrace that was there and therefore would all need ripping out and different width steps etc putting in to accommodate safe standing and until itā€™s full every week itā€™s cost prohibitive.

Accrington had it right today, sit if you want or you were welcome to move to the terrace if you wanted. Everyoneā€™s happy.

If only all football club were/could be so accommodating. Quite a nice little club to be fair, i was impressed. Other than their antics on the pitch, obviously.

It was quite an interesting experiment, without it being an actual experiment.

Weā€™d sold 650 seated tickets ahead of Friday.

When theyā€™d gone, Accrington made it pay on the day for terrace tickets. There were 100 walk ups yesterday. Which had Accrington not been so flexible would have meant 100 of us stood on the terrace. As it was, Iā€™d estimate that over half of those whoā€™d brought seats chose to stand. Iā€™d say we had 450 standers and 300 who took their seats. And those who took their seats would have been able to - yes - sit down because those who wanted to stand could.

Football should be like this. It used to be like this. Itā€™s better.

I agree,

Although if it had started absolutely pissing it down during the game it would have been interesting to see how many tried to get in the seats.

That happened years ago at the storm at Stockport. We and a number of others had tickets in the covered seats but chose to stand on the open terrace.

It came down that hard they took the players off for a while and you couldnā€™t even see the other end of the pitch.

Nobody went back to the seats, didnā€™t even occur to me tošŸ¤£

We just danced on the terrace and tried to stay standing in the hurricane

My experience with railed seating at home and abroad is that in the day and age where a bunch of lads buy tickets in 1s, 2s, 3s or 4s but then all want to sit together ā€¦ they disregard their ā€œspotā€ cram in together. Making these rows and then walkways congested. Decent stewards then weigh in to sort it. Most clubs arenā€™t decent.

I know this happens In seated areas at grounds right now and rail seating makes it that bit safer.

But for me standing is standing. Seating is seating. None of this in between rubbish.

Yeah, I was at that one too. There were a lot of people trying to get into the toilets too. No chance, we just gave up and embraced it the best as possible!

I, along with others, felt they had the right idea yesterday. Iā€™d purchased tickets before yesterday but liked the option of going to the terrace. As it turned out, the kids wanted to stick to seats so thatā€™s what we did.

What I didnā€™t understand was that I, along with quite a few others on the back row of the seating, elected to stand. However we were told to sit down by the stewards and ā€˜If we wanted to stand, then go to the terraceā€™. Wasnā€™t obscuring another personā€™s view by standing with my back against the stand so didnā€™t see what the problem was.

Awkward for the stewards.

If they allow one group to stand, who arenā€™t blocking anyone elseā€™s view, then the first thing anyone else asked to sit down will do is point out that others are standing and not getting asked to sit down.

Much easier to have one consistent rule for everyone.
Both the fans and stewards know what the policy is.

I hope not. Itā€™ll give somewhere for all the selfish barstewards who think itā€™s ok to stand up when youā€™ve got people sitting behind you to go.

Agree Sid. If you buy a ā€œseatā€ you are entitled to a ā€œseatā€.

Weak stewarding for me.

The ideal is like yesterday - a choice.

Then thereā€™s no excuse for people standing in a seated area.

Problems occur when you dictate and attempt to force people one way or the other.

At Bescot the absolute ideal would be standing in the lower and standing in what is now the family stand. That way you can watch your football in any way you like. Sit or stand behind the goal and sit or stand on a side. Everyone happy.

My day at Old Trafford was ruined by a fat cnut right in front of me who refused to sit down. Wanker.

The ground regulations that all league clubs follow mean theyā€™re not supposed to allow standing in a seated area. Of course, in reality, how strictly that is applied is generally down to how good (or not) the stewarding is.

Yeah I get the ā€˜rulesā€™, just didnā€™t think it made much difference as I was back row. Wouldnā€™t have stood at all had I not been. Ah well, I complied, Iā€™m no troublemaker.

I remember being 15 years old in the terrace behind the home goal when Boli scored his overhead kick & hat trick against Southend. Limbs

Atmosphere at the Bezzla never was the same again after they put up the big stand and removed terrace
