PJT v Cheltenham 20/9/22

The shot was on target but the deflection took it out of Evans’ reach or he might have got a hand to it.

Cheltenham just showing that extra quality when it matters. We have tried to get forward and had a good start. If we got the first penalty and scored it, it could have been a bit of a different game. We look a bit shaky when they attack our box and they are defending their box well so we can’t create open chances. We just lack that bit of edge in the final third / edge of their box.
I don’t think 2-0 is a fair reflection of that half but we can’t seem to catch a break at the moment, coupled with a lacking a bit of nous.

First 30 minutes we looked the better side, but Cheltenham then moved up a gear and put us to the sword. Unfortunately we only seem to have one gear, and that’s reverse.

If you don’t score goals…
Earing could have had a hat trick by now.

Not sure where we go from here.

Don’t quite get why we are playing him in a flat back 4 as everyone knew he had been bought to play a role in the 3 at the back due to lack of pace etc. Maybe we should have started Monthe or stayed with 3 at the back.

Be good to see Gordon at some point this half.

It’s not a bad game, with even play but a couple of good strikes from them. Our left side is a weakness too.

When things don’t go your way…two very poor penalty decisions.

We will lose now but I hope we keep giving it a go. If we were able to play like this in League 2, we would not do badly.

The big question for me is, do I bother to watch the second half?:thinking::thinking:

First 10/15 it looked like we had some intent to pass the ball. Tried to feed it into Hutchinson and Earing and it looked ok. But all too often after that 3rd pass it inevitably falls to Clarke, Daniel’s or White and HOOOOOOF chase that!!

It’s f ing painful when there’s an option to bloody pass to 10/15 yards away that isn’t even a difficult pass.

Knowles I’m sore will prove me wrong now but he’s been a bloody hinderence and his corners are dog……

We’re just not having any luck at all. Two stone all penalties denied by a ref who forgot to bring his guide dog.
The standard of refereeing at this level deserves serious investigating, it’s absolutely shocking! At least have some form of VAR just to keep these incompetent officials in check.
As for the game, we failed to clear our lines on two occasions which they scored from, it certainly isn’t a 2-0 game.
One can see what a difference it makes when Earing is in an attacking role, had the ref done his job properly it would have been 2-2.
As I said, we’re not getting any breaks at the moment, we need them to turn this winless streak around.

Not sure how much longer we have to wait for a goal or even a win in a football match.

We really are in free fall at the moment so low on confidence throughout the team , how do they turn it round ?

And please don’t anyone say our problems are the CM. All three have done ok here tonight….so far.

Not only was the challenge on Earing a penalty but it was also the keeper off with no sub on the bench.

Confidence is at a real low and denial of penalties ebbs away confidence even more.injuries and poor reffing is adding to the doom and gloom.

Isn’t there no double jeopardy now? If it’s not a professional foul or deliberate handball then it’s only a penalty ?

If there is a positive, Earing has played well so far.

Evans has thee worst distribution of a gk I have ever witnessed on my life.

Yellow card for Hayden White (46 min)

We really struggle to get shots on target in football matches compared to other football teams.

Flynns demeanour and approach to this competition feels like abandonment which is fair but he was the one towing the “Cup money” line early on. Its a shit comp but its still cash in the door
