Port Vale (A) Dec 7th, 12.30pm k.o

Great performance. @thefuturesstirk was man of the match for me. Jamma put such a shift in too. How his star is shining bright at Bescot nowadays! I notice too that Nathan was wearing a Jamma tribute bandage today, but on his left hand.

It was so good to see the bench hugging each other and cheering as the game ended. When Sadler speaks of all of the players being part of a unit, even if they are not getting a game, it’s not a cliché - he’s built something special.

Not so good today, the Ref (again). The number of times Vale players went to ground and got a free kick after losing the ball was frustrating, even more so when we were getting nothing for real fouls.

And also, it was an inevitability that after Crewe, some muppets of our own would bring and fling smoke bombs. Utter cretins.

Genuinely forget the performance, forget the weather, that’s just an amazing 3 points.

Oh and Vale go to Bromley next week, who have really picked up!

I hope we dont do what we are famous for next week, beat the teams up top and then lose to the dross. I hate playing barrow since they got promoted its 4 draws 4 losses.

The good thing is the team is capable of winning games in many ways. A few were demanding scrappy 1-0 aways a few weeks back and just reeled off two at Wimbledon and the former league leaders. And can also win games comfortably.

Also compared to 15/16 there’s an extra promotion place in play in this division which is important.

This team imo could win the league if that 11 plus Jellis all remain at the club until May.

However take Jellis (although of course just won without him today) and Lowe out and not replace either and suddenly it looks weaker.

And his Walsall crest is getting less and less with each interview, no wonder Ben S isn’t a happy chappy with Macron…

Sadler made a very good point about substitutes in the WM interview, saying that he only made one change because a player new to the conditions would find it very difficult to adjust. Darren Moore obviously thought otherwise but I reckon Sadler was right.

Atmosphere today was just fantastic.

Togetherness between the players and fans hasn’t been this good since Graydon’s era 20 years or so ago.

Liam Gordon take a bow, you can see him stop the danger and immediately get in position to make a fantastic clearance.

The way they all help each other out is the sign of a real team.

just for comparison, here is the league table from last year at roughly the same number of games:

Not doing too shabbily are we?

Hall and Matt had run themselves into the ground tho and looked shattered. The problem is we don’t have a like for like for hall cause Maher out on loan and obv no jellis.

Yeh, was watching Jamma at the end. He left nothing on the pitch, he gave evey bit of energy he’d got.

Massive heart this team has got.

I don’t buy that. We had Earing and McEntee on the bench.

Accidentally posted in the Notts thread but I’ll piggy back onto this as a comparison of our previous seasons

I’m not Matt’s biggest fan in that considering his strength he could / should hold up and lay off better and get less involved in the scrapping …but today he was immense .

Chased , harried , held up , scored . Brilliant - a proper captains performance.

Stirk also absolutely brilliant . As he often his .
