I don’t recall calmness in the defence when DD last played in it quite the opposite actually and a number of very poor goals conceded.

‘Big changes are needed’ yet you select Ryan Stirk. Beyond belief. It is no exaggeration to put our decline down to the inept performances of Stirk. He has no good points. Get him out of the squad. Put Maher in his position. A better ball-winner who can pass and shoot with accuracy.

This isn’t a dig at anyone, but I think at this point we are all just trying to find any solution. Clutching at straws. There is only one man that can do that.
We don’t defend as a team any more, we look lost for ideas at times, especially at home.
Momentum is everything in football. We were riding the crest of a wave earlier in the season. Now it looks like the players don’t believe they can win.

Yes I’m still gutted too. The thought of throwing away promotion (never mind the title, I don’t care too much about that - we did the same in 79/80) makes me feel totally despondent. Failing to gain promotion after being so far ahead feels worse than any relegation.
If we don’t go up, I fear for the club, I really do.

He’s completely lost the dressing room! It’s hard to watch! This is the Walsall that passed it about well when we had the ball! I remember we put in about 30 odd passes together and scored from it…I think it was against Colchester! We look like a completely different team now

I’ve not gone for the players or my fellow fans. I thought the players ran them selves silly for Sadlers game plan. I was behind the team for 90 mins.

Felt funereal today after Vale’s equaliser. Quiet second-half, like we all knew it had gone. We filed out in silence. The loo was full and noone was speaking. Like a funeral. And a fight by the Locker, so maybe like a wake. Sadler is killing this season. Or maybe Sadler has killed this season. I asked One Pod Beyond in Januaru how I could enjoy this when we were X points clear because what would it do to me when we blew it? I should have asked Sadler. But then he never experienced 1979/80. Maybe we go on and win the next 5 and it’s fine. Maybe. That it has come to this is a stain. And the silence at the end was telling.

Yep. People pretended Sadler was some total football merchant because they disliked Flynn. It’s absolutely no better football. He’s had a good half of the season results wise but the style has never been any better. And we are shitting the bed in the second half.

There are similarities.
We were doing well under Flynn when we had DJ. Not as well as we were earlier this season, but we were well in the automatic promotion race until DJ went back. Then we fell off a cliff.
I agree, it is a very similar style with slightly better players overall.

Correct. When we win. no problem. When we drew the odd one or lose the odd one no problem.
When you win 2 in 15 or 16. Big problem.
When you have a window to strengthen when on top and don’t. Big concern.
When the players you sign don’t get a kick big concern.
When you throw away a lead like we had big concern.
So was I troll for saying it would happen and play out like this ? Back in Jan and Feb (when we were winning I got some stick after we beat MKD !) or a troll now for being disappointed and frustrated when it has ? Or both ?
I just want us promoted. I just want us to win. Same as everyone. I just guess I see it differently and expect more.

So now it’s finally out of our hands - if Doncaster win their game in hand then we’re in 4th place. 10 points clear of 8th place so a play-off spot is pretty much guaranteed - but a shocking (and sickening) situation given where we were.
Even for someone who’s followed them for 40+ years this last 3 months has been a shambles. Over those years I’ve been let down by Walsall more times than I care to remember - but this will be the worst - and the most inexcusable.
Hard to blame the players - until half time yesterday they’ve never given up the fight - but once Vale went ahead they looked lost. The fault lies firmly at the door of the management and leadership team - circumstances presented them with a golden opportunity, and they’ve blown it - and the thing is, many of us will have expected this to happen because we know this club all to well.
