Yes, I was there. Couldn’t see anything beyond the edge of the pelanty area. Awful experience.
In my lifetime and against the backdrop of the incredible unbeaten run against them , Vale fan stabbed in 77 at home, vw Beetle full of Walsall fans turned over and spun on its roof in 79 away game, monumental scrap in 83/84 Sunday game at theirs that lasted about an hour and included a red and white flag being unfurlred which read “Walsall Scum”, that’s in addition to the “we hate Walsall” flag referred to by Warsaw Pact. When they eventually beat us in the flu game there was another Walsall car overturned not far from the ground, which incited a huge kick off involving house windows being put through as their lot ran off and hid in said houses. Later that season, long after the 5-0 instant revenge humiliation they suffered in the Cup they invaded the pitch at Fellows Park when going 2-0 up after about 5 minutes, which resulted in about 30 of ours ending up in the corner scrapping during a chaotic ten minutes or so when the yapping police dogs and their brave handlers that occuppied the “no mans land” also got a kicking or, if they were a bit more savvy, just kept out of the road… won 5-2.
What Rivalry??
Seriously?
Jaspet Carrot once described Walsall vPort Vale as “the Rangers/Celtic of the midlands”
I do find functioning adults calling teams by derogatory names such as Sjoke, Fail and Crwho rather tedious.
People should act their age.
Good evening.
3 points tomorrow please.
and there’s you the epitome of calm and measured responses during games Al.
Indeed .
I think i may have a meltdown today
You definately will, there is no “think” about it.
They were feral that night - kicked off outside away end.
Glad somebody else can recall the Jasper Carrot piece. Was beginning to wonder if I had made it up.
Edit aaaaaghhhh. That f****** Jamille Matt (forgive my French).
Port Vale fans asking for Moore to be sacked.
Such a good guy he needs to move to a professional club.
Looking forward to hammering them at home
UTS
It’ll cost them. I think they gave him a 5 1/2 year deal.
I dunno when you was there mate but was a very strict school when I first went in 87, Old purple haired Harvey was at the helm and scared the shxt out of ya when you had to go and see her lol
I remember getting in trouble and being sent out with my pal as punishment to deliver the community magazine to all the local houses on the Mossley, we dumped them and they was later found, 2 week expulsion lol
All good then he won’t be going anywhere and it will help our cause that the PV manager doesn’t have the support of the fans.
Tom Pope was a massive problem in that time, pretty sure he scored the winner at Bescot two years running? Then did the same for Bury a year or two later?
Him and James Hanson were jinxs in that era so as good as DS teams were they struggled massively to contain battering ram CFs.
Have to say looking at the highlights yesterday what was the point of them swopping the away fans to the other end? Their end behind the goal just looked half empty which probably bemused anyone neutral watching knowing it was a top of the table clash.
Camera just before the corner was taken showed what a great away following it was. Really looking forward to the Notts County game, surely take 3-5-4k to that one with it being on a bank holiday and also at 3pm.
You think we will take over 3000 to Notts on New Years Day? I was thinking more like 800-1000. Are there trains running, that is how a lot of fans usually travel to Nott’s County.
I might be way off, hope you are right.
Just had a look and they are selling train tickets from birmingham to Nottingham on New Year’s Day, some good prices too.
I’ve been to Notts lots of times on the train, think they usually have some kind of deal if there is 4 or more of you, or something like that.
I still think 3k is a bit optimistic but it would be great.
I asked a Vale fan in the bar we were drinking in, why they had swapped ends.
He said it was because it has better facilities with a bar behind the stand etc. for the home fans now.
I was thinking it was on police advice to keep fans separated, as their lot pour out of the stand on the left and there is always a flash point on the car park, where we/other fans would come out.
Having to walk round the back of the main stand and up Lorne Street, keeps a buffer between fans after the match.
1,500 at Meadow Lane would be brilliant, more likely to be around 1k.
Is a crap day for Notts unfortunately , a standard Saturday we’d take 2,000+ but it ain’t the best of days for most
