Really? Drogheda literally offered him a permenant contract!
So if he had signed for them we would also have got nowt.
I wouldn’t worry, he is probably about as competent with a gun as he is with a football club
There is also potential gain with players, and he was probably identified as someone who can achieve that return. I find it really strange, because for me it was a pretty normal situation. There was a player who needed time before being kicked out of the nest. It didn’t work out for him, but that’s normal.
We didn’t kick him out, we offered him a contract!
The first option comment was because before the 1st June and if he had reached the required standard we could talk to him and if he had reached a promising standard before we could have recalled or offered earlier even before the Jan window when he would have been fee to talk to others, sorry if that wasn’t clear
I’m not defending the decision but trying to give balance to the discussion
There is a player budget, so that contract was within that system. If it hadn’t been spent on him, someone else, young and mainly unproven, would have been signed from somewhere.
It was like a safety net set in the wrong river.
Not really plucked out of the air four options 3 we benefit from (75%) one we don’t (25%) but I’m not arguing or defending them, but just as I said my take or opinion In an effort to give a balance to the discussion. But I can understand the decision
I meant from a Trivela perspective he remained a Trivela player either with us or Drogheda
Whether that’s the way they should view things is another matter but I get a feeling they compartmentalise some decisions but when more than one of the Trivela group of teams is involved they take a more holistic view
We keep being told they don’t do that with budgets, so why would they do it with players?
This is exactly the problem that bothers me.
I don’t care much about DJT, he is useless.
So now we’re down to debating whether Trivela managed to get a return on a player literally nobody at the club wanted all because some journalist from an Irish newspaper has an opinion? Trivela really are living rent free in peoples heads right now.
Wouldn’t surprise me if DJT ends up back in EFL2 at some point.
Bohemians probably banking some profit in the process.
I think you’ve literally just hit the spot that folks are raising concerns over. If there’s such a thing as “Trivela players” then presumably when teams are recruiting it is with the others in mind. Which it seems was exactly the case with DJT. Have we done the same thing with Ahui?? How does both Walsall and Drogheda offering DJT contracts at the same time work? Was it that Trivela realised their mistake regarding the compo (highly likely in my opinion) and hastily offered him a deal at Drogheda to head off the posibility of him leaving for nowt? Who knows? but it looks and sounds like a load of over-complicated bollox for zero gain. When Walsall FC recruit players I want 100% of the focus on being what that player brings to Walsall FC. I have no problem with players moving between the clubs or going on loan or whatever, but when it comes to recruitment and use of budget each club in the group should be focussed on their own business. Anything else is just a mess.
You completely missed the point.
I had brought it up long before the journalist wrote anything.
You are right, no one wanted him, and yet we triggered his extension anyway.
They definitely don’t live rent-free in my head. They do owe me money though.
That is exactly what I was getting at, you just put it better than I did.
Nope, people are debating the DJT situation and scratching the surface a little, it’s what happens on a forum.
But thanks for adding value to the conversation
There’s no debate, they didn’t. Where the debate arises is who paid for him, and if the answer is Walsall - even in part - its to Walsall’s detriment.
This kind of arrogantly dismissive remark is, I suspect, why so few people bother expressing a view on threads and it’s just the same few posters going round in circles.
Can’t wait for the season to start so we’ve actually got something tangible to talk about
They’re just responding to equally dismissive remarks tbf.
