Rico Henry improving all the time

The centre half standard in that squad is absolute dog shit.

Shearer praising Rico on MotD as being magnificent all game against Man City.

Based on his performance today Man. City will be coming in with a 40m + bid in six months time…

He’d then be one of loads of £40m plus defenders at City.

Disgusting.

And southgate thinks a fat Luke Shaw is better.

Yeah but he is a Manchester United player Killer

Luke Shaw is on a level that Rico will never reach.

Have to say having watched the Brentford game yesterday it was definitely the best I’ve seen Rico play in the Premier, he looked like he belonged there previously to me he’s looked like he was trying to hard and prone to making silly mistakes but yesterday he was very good. Personally from my point of view I can see why he hasn’t been involved with England yet but if he can maintain his level of performance from yesterday he definitely will be sooner rather than later.

Is that on the scales?

Personally, I’d love to see an ex Saddler in an England shirt. I know that the club would benefit financially, but also because I find watching England so dull for 90% of the time.

I know you mean an “England” shirt and I agree, it would be great. Conor Coady should be nowhere near the squad - Henry should take his place. And Toney should be in the squad too, either for Rashford or one of the surplus midfielders.

I’d love to see Rico get a move to one of big 6/7 clubs. Or maybe even a West Ham or a Leicester. Lets see him playing under a bit more duress. Lets see him playing a bit of European Football.

He has the odd good game for Brentford. But as a LB I think he’t a little bit more more TAA than Kyle Walker. He had that mare against United the back end of last season. I always think his small stature puts him at a big disadvantage on the back stick.

I think Mitchell at Palace is ahead of him at the moment. Mitchell not as good going forward - but a top notch full back.

Thanks @Saddlertd I did mean England shirt (I’ll edit it now). Mind you, I wouldn’t mind seeing him in a Walsall shirt again too!

By the way, you look at the Wales squad with league two (Wimbledon and Swindon) players in the World Cup but no sign of Tom Bradshaw (who scored a hat-trick the other week and is a regular goal scorer in the Championship). I don’t get it!

I think that’s fair.

But as a country who would want to see itself as top 5 there will be a lot of games where a marauding full/wing back is a better bet than one who is slightly more trusted defensively.

Qualifiers against the likes of San Marino/Andorra where you are effectively playing against a keeper and ten defenders. Even in tournaments I think he’d be a good option. Our group is Wales, USA and Iran.

Sometimes it is more about breaking down a stubborn side rather than worrying about physicality at the back stick. If Iran are getting it wide and crossed to attacking players on a regular basis it will be about more than the style of left back you’ve picked.

Went to the game yesterday with a mate who supports Brentford, and thought Rico was fantastic, as was Toney, but they aren’t part of Southgate’s secret society, so clearly aren’t going to ever be selected.

Think there’s a bit of a misconception that Rico isn’t very good defensively, when he actually is (he’s definitely no worse than Trent is in that regard), and his pace is frightening - he would have been a great option to take to the World Cup, especially if England were chasing a game, or playing weaker opposition. He would also fit in well as a marauding wing-back.

As an aside, I’m almost glad we’ll never make the big time, the experience outside the ground was more akin to a theme park or concert, with so many tourists having their photos taken etc. Also thought City were dire, Haaland was awful, and the atmosphere was terrible. Give me Carlisle away any day of the week!

Completely agree.

It’s a massive debate around here. Liverpool FC/Anfield is now a huge tourist attraction. Seven days a week and gets heightened on match day. On matchday it gridlocks a huge part of the city as transport links aren’t great.

A lot of locals are priced out or are part of a syndicate of say 5 people who share a ticket. On the occasions they do go, there is proper anger at the corporate mob who are still taking their seats 15 minutes into the second half and the tourists taking selfies as the winner goes in.

I don’t think it’s an outsider thing. I don’t think it’s a case of if you don’t talk like Harry Cross you aren’t welcome. It’s more that the club means so much to so many people who don’t get a sniff because of either price or availability. Who if they do go, from wherever they live are there an hour before kick off and then kick every ball, sing all the songs and are completely enveloped by being there supporting their club. This as opposed to it being a “tick off” along with the Cavern, the Liver Building and the ferry or a corporate thing.

Anyway, this lad says it better than me. Bit of language in here so if you don’t like swearing don’t play the clip.

Rico was brilliant against Citeh yesterday, so was Toney.

Southgate is a

Remember going to Man U a few years ago, think it was the game Villa got relegated at. Was a bit of tourist attraction vibe, the atmosphere was dismal to be honest from Man Utd fans, and up close Old Trafford looks knackered and tatty.

Watching Shaw for the Fulham goal today shows that the bar for Rico isn’t that high at all. If he gets a move to a more fashionable club he’ll be called up for sure.

James Justin got a bad injury again so Leicester would be good fit for him although he might be out of their price range with what Brentford would ask for.

How long does he have left on his deal now or is he just going to do a Deeney and sign endless extensions to his early 30s.
