Ryan Stirk Departs

Not shy to shoot yeah, pity they are virtually all off target

Maybe the goals are a few feet higher in Chesterfield

Nastiness f me, couldn’t knock the skin off a bowl of rice pudding, seen scarier birds down Walsall on a Saturday night.

The reason he joined chesterfield is they play a more attractive brand of football ie on the ground which he states suits him better.

I’ll guarantee you the reason he joined them was £££

Of course and why not?

On the Notts forum they seem glad McGoldrick went up a division and didn’t leave for another L2 club ā€œjust for the moneyā€. They specifically mentioned Chesterfield and MKD as the 2 clubs most likely to have been able to offer a fair bit more wedge.

Oh, I have nothing against any player doing the best for themselves financially, especially at the lower leagues where it can make significant difference to their lives and future.

I’m not buying this he went to play a better style of football. If Walsall beat Chesterfield’s wage offer, I reckon he’d have stayed with us. Not that I think we should have attempted to pay high wages for him. He proved himself to be one of the biggest bottlers, that is just my opinion, of course.

Agree with most of that, but not the bottler bit. :champagne:

It’s probably a bad phrase to be honest.

He went missing, was hiding. The pressure of it all seemed to overwhelm him so much that he couldn’t perform at the levels he had.

Again, those are just my views, I know a lot don’t agree.

I’ve seen you post similar before regarding Stirk, I agree that his performances weren’t good enough when we needed them to be, but it did become tougher as teams played their 10 or dropped a striker to play on him when the back line had the ball.

The play then wasn’t through him but over his head most of the time.

I couldn’t agree more. For instance: where was he against Vale? He was anonymous- our midfield that day was hopeless! And against Wimbledon at Wembley. And what did he help create against Harrogate, Accrington and Newport when we needed a creative spark? Eff all!!

Good players find a way of getting round that, like varying the position where they receive the ball, or receiving it on the half-turn! He didn’t do that - he was too static. When we play Chesterfield, we need to close his space down - that will stop him playing!

Agreed he was one of players who was totally anonymous at Wembley and most of 2nd half of season , he bailed because he knows he fooked up

And Barrow away. In fact, didn’t some fans have a go at Stirk after the Barrow game and he reacted? He’s not exactly thick-skinned!!

When Stirk was ā€œon itā€ he was a very useful CDM at league two level. Consistency was the issue for me, too many times he drifted out of games or was totally anonymous throughout. He can be replaced but it must be with some experience imo, I appreciate that Stirk had limited experience when he joined us but I think that showed in the ā€œtough momentsā€. Like almost all players at this level if they get a sniff of a decent pay rise they will move on. I look forward to giving him dogs abuse when he returns to Bescot on 6th September and will be ready to catch his attempts on goal ( I am in the middle tier too :rofl:)

No it was Jellis

I appreciate that playing in Walsall’s midfield wasn’t the easiest of tasks.

I watched him closely towards the end of the season. It wasn’t so much that players were marking him, he actually went and stood right next to them when we had possession. He really didn’t want the ball and couldn’t wait to get rid of it when he did. The amount of challenges he went into and didn’t come out with the ball was ridiculous. Even if they were well in his favour.

Interestingly, Jellis was equally ineffective. He didn’t hide though, he still tried things, he just couldn’t do anything right. I hope he can find his form again.

To be clear, it wasn’t all on Stirk, far from it. We are just discussing him now. Lots of players could and should have done more.

No doubt he will come back to bite us, though.

Is there anything more certain than Stirk hitting one sweetly into the top corner of our net?

Thought he had a great game against chesterfield at home but ffs he was shite at wembley

Well who wasn’t to be fair …

Think he did disappear in a lot of games for us, Chesterfield biggin him up as he’s a new signing for them, but they will come to realise he’s just chasing the wage package.
Will look forward to giving him stick back at our place, and pretty confident he’s got more chance of putting one of the windows through, rather than score a goal … there I’ve said it now , all the blame on me then …
