In my Walsall tinted specs, I can see why he pulled it up. One of their players gave Jellis a bit of a shove when they were both in the floor after the corner. Jellis gave him a little kick back and jogged away. Their bloke proceeded to sprint after him so he intervened to stop it kicking off
I really enjoyed today game and atmosphere. I thought Lakin was our best player today. I thought jellis had a shocker and should’ve come off not Lakin. Levi raw but he’s got the attributes to be an handful. That first Johnson goal looked like it was going wide from block 1 but fantastic to see it go in. Simkin with a worldie save and to think people still think he’s meh. Albert for barret was the right sub too. We will win enough games at home to get out this league from our position imo but it’s gonna be a proper dog fight away from home. We’ve got this.
Jesus, what a complete tool. Imaging having to listen to that after every game.
We were much the better team today. Bit of a shakey start but grew more and more into it as the game went on.
We must stop giving these early goals away though, gives us an up hill battle and teams something to cling onto.
Had we made that pressure early in the 2nd half count I’d have backed us to go on and win 3 or 4/1.
So to get sucker punched and go 2-0 down you did think it’s going to be that sort of day, but not with this team, fantastic character from the boys.
Fantastic save from Simkin, when you talk about keepers earning you points, he certainly earned that one with that save. It would have been a travesty for them to get 3.
I thought Wheatley looked lightweight and not up to the physicality of the mens game, particularly at this level. He’s a young lad and no doubt a talent but not every young lad is going to come in and do what Lowe bit who was up to it. If he is going to play any major part for us he’s going to have to toughen up quicklý as we don’t have time to wait for him.
I thought Levi played a major part in that end to the game. He gave us that physicality we’ve missed with Jamma out and helped it stick and we’ve seen how important that is over the last couple of games with Jamma missing.
Dj did, what Dj does and I hope he stays for the journey as I think him with Levi or Jamma could give us what we need in some games like this one.
Glad we got a point in the end because every point counts, but that was a tough watch with Gordon and Wheatley starting.
Wheatley simply doesn’t look ready and struggled to get involved at all. He might improve a bit with more match fitness and bit more time training with us, but he looks lightweight - think he lost every single challenge he was involved in. No surprise he got hooked.
Amantchi looks like he’ll be useful, especially when Matt is absent. I can see why we’ve signed him.
Josh Gordon, well, the less said about him the better. I think there’s keepers out there that have a higher xG than him.
I have the horrible feeling that this is a club that has sat on its laurels this January - we overperformed in the first half of the season and got ourselves in to a very strong position. Most other clubs would see this as an opportunity to capitalise and consolidate. We seem to have tried to do the absolute bare minimum, and take a risk on a very unproven youngster.
We’ve got 48hrs to sort this mess of a January out.
Exactly.
@SaddlerSteve it’s full of trolls. Lock the door, draw the curtains
Overall a good performance from us.
We were the better team but our defence seems to have switched off and if we concede two the way we did then we can’t complain about getting a point really…
Thought Levi did ok but I’ve got a feeling he’s not a natural finisher based on today’s evidence. Disappointed with Ethan who struggled to get into the game
Great save by Simpkin
Loved DJ getting a brace. That might be the last we see of him if the Carlisle rumours are true. The only natural finisher at the club right now.
Ref was poor and Carl Robinson was his usual horrible self.
Left the Stadium with a spring in my step because it wasn’t a bad game to watch and the second half atmosphere was tremendous. Onwards to Colchester. UTS.
Cat like reflexes I would say
I know it’s early but Ethan looks like one of these loans that aren’t ready for mens football yet on today’s evidence.
Some fun facts.
Weir now has more assists than Liam Gordon and DJ has scored as many in his last 20 minutes as Josh Gordon has in his last 27 games.
1st i hope the ref got the class of 92 autographs as he seemed to want to play into their arms for every time they went down congratulations on achieving that
2nd that is the worst side down here this season
3rd how are they that high in the league
4th HOW THE F%%K DIDN’T WE BEAT THEM
5th That’s the worst Salford team i’ve seen down here wow
6th As Gigg’s had the promise on the ref’s wife like he did on his Bro’s
Unless Lowe is coming back, there is no way we should get rid of DJ! Can’t we send Josh Gordon to Carlisle instead? We certainly won’t score enough goals to win many games with a strike force of Jamma, Levi, Flush and Wheatley!! Perhaps we should have gone for Dom Telford.
Glad to get a point out of that. Hopefully that will restore a bit of confidence.
Really poor first goal, defence totally switched off. Second goal is understandable as we were pushing forwards. Great comeback though - DJ seems to know where to be at the vital times. If he goes, we need a replacement in terms of a natural goal scorer. Can’t see it happening, and if so we need at least a creative/goal scoring midfielder. We seem to struggle to create any openings from open play.
Disappointed with Wheatley. Looks very lightweight - needs to hit the weights. Encouraged by his reaction when he came off though as he knows he didn’t have a good game. Thought Levi did ok though, thought he was going to score with his first touch. Perhaps a bit more desire to get that header in and he would have.
Looking at the fixtures coming up, we have a run til late March where we don’t play any of the serious contenders for the automatics. Next week will be tough at Colchester but hopefully after that we can push on. UTS!
Between Wheatley or Levi I’m pretty sure which one the Salford centre halfs preferred playing against.
A promising cameo young man. Welcome Levi.
I wrote on the transfer thread that I would keep DJ as a back up. He is, like the rest of them, a part of a very good team and plays his part. Sadler played a blinder today with the subs. A game that we would have won with Jamma and Lowie up front, but they weren’t available. We could easily have lost, had Sadler not used his subs well, plus the fantastic attitude of our team.
That was a MOSSIVE result for me today. We did enough to win, but more importantly, we came from 2-0 down and avoided a third straight defeat.
Thought Levi was decent, and I think Ethan will do well once he gets to grips with men’s football.
Lots of positives today.
Edit - I forgot to say that the ref was a complete nob. We would have most likely won that with a more competent official.
Hard work wasn’t it. Sleep well tonight!
Agree on all the ref criticism but he did us a massive favour pulling the game back to book Jellis and Tilt when they were away on the counter attack.
I’m hearing Liam Gordon got booked after being subbed
Have to admit I’m struggling to see any upside with Josh Gordon - he’s not enough of a threat anywhere around the box and teams simply don’t seem to fear him running at them.
Surely a standard requirement for any forward player is to be able to make defences think about how to handle you - any half-decent defender will soon suss out how to keep him fairly quiet.
His record for someone getting a start in the game is way below even bang average - I’d prefer us to keep DJ and release him…
