The club with the very similar stadium. Relegated to the National League North today. Could face Rushall Olympic in a league fixture next season potentially. Wow.
Shows what serious mismanagement could do.

Stockport also dropped down to that level
Just had my brother in law up, has been a Skunny fan since birth, he is distraught
It wasn’t that long ago that they nearly got into the championship
I think it would be a little remiss to think that we are to good for that to happen to us, because the people in charge of our club(maybe not the owners) are just the sort of conceited burkes to let it happen
They were in the Championship in 2006 for a couple of years?
Did they get anywhere near the prem?
Championship finishes were 23rd in 2008 and 24th in 2011
They won Division 3 the season we won Division 4, then came straight back down, then went straight back up via the play offs and lasted a couple of seasons before coming back down to mainly concentrate on winning 4-1 every time they visited Bescot.
Next season they will be playing Peterborough Sports, Banbury and Curzon Ashton.
Another tragic story from the footballing world and you have to feel for the fans as I’m sure non of them would have wanted this to happen.
Would have to check the stats but in the mid 2000’s I think they yo yo’d for a couple of seasons between L1 and the Championship, a bit like we had. Remember they played some good stuff under Brian Laws?
Have thought for a long time, longer than the last 5 years, that we have the “potential” to be a non-league club. In the same way that we have the potential to compete at the right end of L1 to get into the Championship. Certainly a long way off that now.
Back to Scunny; remember them dropping down into Div 3 back in the 60’s. They then ended up in Div 4 for a very long time before a renaissance. Very much like us, an old industrial town with no industry. Always enjoyed our games against them.
And my nephew rang him tonight to offer him free tickets to the Hereford game
Sounds similar to us from 1999 to 2004. Apart from the winning at Bescot. Never an easy place to go for us.
After coming back down they even managed a fairly swift relegation to Division 4 and an immediate return, so very similar to our record of '99 to '07, we just had an extra season in the Championship.
They sacked Graham Alexander in March 2018 when they were about 5th in league one. Lost comfortably in the play offs and never recovered. Ivan Toney was playing for them upfront on loan that season which shows their rapid fall from grace (and his rise). Relegated the next season and then went down from the league last season.
I doubt even he’d have put a bet on them being national league north within five years when he was there!
Oldham were also looking like they would be on for double relegation but they’ve rallied since the new year.
and funnily enough were the ones who beat them today to send them down again
The National League is a terrifying prospect. It’s basically becoming the 5th Division of professional English Football. For every poorly ran / underperforming pro club there are two or three better-ran, forward thinking National League clubs ready to take their place.
On the flipside, Luton moved into third in the Championship today. So, there could be two clubs from Jeff’s famous statement in the Premier League next year, while Rotherham look fairly safe in the Championshp.
That’s the scary thing. What has Walsall done that’s new and innovative in the last decade? Maybe the kids for free scheme - the one that’s never ever advertised properly?
It’s unbelievable how quickly and how far they are dropping through the leagues. Even in their darkest thoughts I can’t imagine any of their fans contemplated this happening - and it’s a sobering thought to think that things can get worse even once you’ve dropped out of League 2.
I feel for Scunny fans, just hoping Torquay stay up now
If rushall go up might go to the game, will be money spinner for rushall
Their downfall matched the timeline of Mantom joining them didn’t it? Another who’s plummeted down the leagues.
