Searches at the ground

The Trust have received the following letter from the club re the slightly contentious new searching regime at the ground:

Seems the club is between a rock and a hard place here.
Searches (for an old bloke like me at least) had become a thing of the past.
Very common back in the latter decades of the last century, when hooliganism was at its zenith.

The club has to comply with the legislation.

Last night I was later than usual coming down from the Jimmy Walker and there was quite a queue at both sets of turnstiles into the lower. For bigger games, where there are more fans and lots turning up only a few minutes before kick off, it will only get worse.

Doubt supporter behaviour will change much re getting to your seat early, so is the answer more stewards or tech like the scanners they have at airports?

My search was a slight tickle down the sides of my legs…job done. No checking back pockets or front coat etc…pointless

Martyn’s Law was a response to the Manchester Arena bombing, and was a Labour manifesto pledge, but was, in my opinion, a mistake.

The Manchester Arena tragedy could have been prevented if staff had carried out basic common sense security by stopping someone taking a large rucksack full of explosives into the arena.

However, it is impossible to stop all terrorist attacks. We have had pub bombs, underground train bombs, bus bombs and shopping centre bombs; but we cannot search everyone going into a pub, a train, a bus or a shopping centre.

Terrorists have used vans, cars, guns and knives to kill people in the street, and there is no way that we prevent all future attacks.

Terrorists commit these atrocities not just to kill a relatively small number of people, but so that the rest of us live in fear and have a lower quality of life. Martyn’s Law is a small victory for the terrorists.

Would love to know if any “banned” item has been found during these searches. I think the issue is, if you are stupid enough to try and take something illegal into the ground, you dont just put it in your pocket, i suspect it is either given to a minor or “hidden” in places they dont search, especially as they can see ahead that searches are taking place. Tough one to police really.

I’m literally amazed that anyone in their right mind are complaining about this!

Ffs mind boggling :rofl::rofl:

Despite being advised each week to make your way there at five and twenty to three

Think they make special pants for that now.

Think that’s an excellent response from the club to be fare. Explains exactly the reasons for it and tackles the questions about why pyros still get in whilst excepting there are still areas of training to address and a commitment to do so.

Not like they ever find any of the coke that gets smuggled in and sniffed in the toilets routinely at away games.

Not really what they are looking for and a good thing given the rip off prices on that stuff otherwise the searches would be seen in a very different light.

If the want to reduce that they should look at their prices and not so many people would bother. People expect and generally accept prices will be higher than elsewhere but their pricing makes a lot of people do this that wouldn’t otherwise bother.

Especially in places that are difficult to go …

It makes us all safe. As long as there is sufficient stewarding to implement it fair enough. As long as they are good natured and polite.

Those of us who don’t feel the need to take in anything we shouldn’t should have no complaints.

I’ve always thought doors open at the end of games without stewards preventing entry Is the riskiest part to crowd safety.

I thought that was talcum power so I rubbed it on my sweaty bits. No wonder the missus gets a bit excited when I get home.
