Sky Sports agrees new five-year EFL deal

Will need more rags as well for when it’s raining

I am not impressed with this news at all.

5 (out of 12 fixtures) from every L1 or L2 fixture round plus all opening, final day, and midweek fixtures will be shown live, as will all games played on bank holidays including Easter, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day alongside the matches played in Sky Bet League One and League Two during international breaks.

None of the games shown live will kick off at 3.00pm on Saturday.

I see Sky haven’t decided which Championship games will be on TV on the final weekend of this season.

So Championship supporters currently can’t get tickets or make travel plans.

That is the biggest issue for me.

Imagine if Wimbledon away on the last day of our season turns out to be vital. That could mean (in future seasons) a short notice scramble for tickets for both the game itself and train tickets.

I mean, train tickets are a bit of a stretch to have a moan to be honest. All last game of the season kick off have to be at the same time on the same day, so it doesn’t really make much odds which they choose in that scenario.

I take the point that through the season it might be an issue, although they do say in that press release that there is a set amount of time before games they have to confirm fixture information so hopefully that is the case.

Train times on a Saturday for an afternoon fixture are generally convenient.
Depends where we are playing, but there aren’t many trains on Friday evenings after 10.00pm. Sunday services are similarly limited.

Tickets are usually cheaper if booked well in advance.

Trains are racked off now anyway always on strike or cancelled in my recent experience had nothing bus hassle with them

You will certainly be watching a fair proportion of away games on the television then as like all clubs we will get loads of weird kick off times on Monday and Thursday nights etc.

Its terrible deal for the fan who likes the traditional Saturday 3pm kick off

The matches that will be changed around are on weekends

Won’t be any Thursday night matches

Would that be ‘bus replacement hassle’ you had with them dear Killer

I was just talking about the last game of the season, as you pointed out in your post. They will all be on the same day whoever they choose for TV.

I agree through the general season it might be an issue, but it did say in the press release they had to decide on games earlier next season

I understand that, I had forgotten that the last day fixtures all kick off at the same times.

At any other time of the season this has the potential to be a nightmare for anyone who likes to go to away games in particular.

I read that they will decide on which games to show up until December at the start of the season, my guess is that after that they will concentrate on various promotion battles.

Why wouldn’t they pick whoever’s fashionable at the time, or close to the studios, like usual? Walsall will get the minimum games possible while it’s wall-to-wall Wrexham…

I’d have thought so, but I’d imagine that would give you plenty of notice.

Doesn’t sound great. One of the perks of being a lower league fan is knowing with certainty when the games will be with the sanctity of 3pm Saturday kick offs remaining.

Guess I’m old fashioned but 11 am kick offs, Sundays , Fridays and Mondays don’t fill me with great happiness.

Cheers PT.
That’s the point I was trying to get over earlier up the thread.
It’d be absolutely J Arthur .

I don’t mind the odd Friday night game, I have been to a few good ones over the years. The fact that they are occasional is probably what makes them though, I wouldn’t fancy it all the time.

Looking at how many games they are planning on showing, it isn’t going to be the odd game that is shifted, 10. 15 maybe even as many as 20. Bad news. Not great really when people have bought season tickets expecting to watch most games at 3pm on a Saturday. I assume Clubs have had to agree to this?

Yep same. Tend to have better atmospheres as well than slap bang in the middle of the day on a Saturday.

People are acting as if we’re going to be on Super Sunday every week. It might happen two or three times in the season, and hey, it might be an away game you’d never dream of going to anyway!

Clubs unanimously agreed on it. Every single one. Virtually never happens.

I’m not sure how it is going to work but I did read that they are going to be showing something like 240 odd league 2 games, so it is going to be more than a few, I think.

I think the 3pm on a Saturday blackout is going to stay, but to be honest I think its days are numbered. Won’t be long before it is gone, seems inevitable.

Not sure about that. They’re showing a minimum of 248 live league two games, none of which will be 3pm on Saturday, except possibly international break weekends . Even if they don’t show more than the minimum that’s 248 out of 552 so it’s not far short of half of all league two matches.

Ten EFL matches every week and five are Championship, so five split between League 1 and 2.

So probably only one or two League 2 matches selected each week
