Glad Josh hasn’t scored pre-season. It would have been a waste.
He scores around one in 20 chances and about once every 15 games. Had he scored preseason it would have meant that on average he wouldn’t have scored again until bonfire night. Now it’ll come in September.
As reasons to be cheerful go, it’s not a blockbuster, but it’s the best I can manage just now.
I don’t think any of us doubted we would sign strikers. It’s the fact that it will more than likely be the panic loan of kids that will be re-called if they are above average, rather than paying the going rate and being ambitious with a lower league striker of proven calibre.
At least it was better than Tuesday night. And sunny.
Drop PF for Dave, Adomah on for Barrett, and hopefully Earing fit enough to start (but replacing Lakin or Jellis - or even Stirk? ), plus more options up front between now and Saturday … Morecambe haven’t won just yet.
Really no excuses for our lack of strikers ( who are capable of playing 90 minutes and scoring goals) poor recruiting with 1 week left til the first game . I don’t care that the window is open til the end of august we needed them in weeks ago .
What we lacked on the ball we more than made up for off the ball. Our shape out of possession was a joy to watch, we kept a high quality and very dangerous Moors side comfortably at bay and on the rare occasion we were breached the absolute monster Tommy Simkin was there to save us.
A subdued and smaller than usual Saddlers audience today compared to previous years but those of us there will know we can be encouraged by a lot of what we saw but acutely aware of the now dire need for further forward options.
My Leamore Windows match hero was Tommy Simkin and my S&S Steelstock match rating was a 6.
As I mentioned before Sadler will get the first 10 -12 games and if progress is not seen ( I mean top half of the table minimum he will be hounded out .
They raised enough to pay the American investors a return on their "investment’ so we shouldnt really complain and be happy that part of this season’s planning has come to a positive fruition
