Solihull Moors (A) - Friendly - Sat 3rd August, 3pm

Pomletts. A bigger liar than crippin.
And they hung him for it

Felt sorry for Gordon and Matt today. Endless clipped balls to the former that were bread and butter for their centre halves, and the latter who looked knackered after an hour of chasing lost causes.

We seemed to box ourselves in for long periods, lots of passive short balls within that block forming the back three and the three in midfield and so many missed opportunities to get the ball out to the wings in favour of the long ball.

Jellis was very busy, Lakin competent, Stirk frustrated, but felt they were pretty indistinguishable from each other in terms of their roles.

Solihull are a decent side but they didn’t run us ragged defensively, though McEntee and Barrett looked vulnerable down the left in the first half.

We made chances, a couple of which JG fluffed, and it’s obvious we need more firepower (hopefully a good foil for Gordon) but the frustration today was that we looked best when getting the ball wide but looked incapable or unwilling to do so quickly enough or regularly enough.

We’ll beat Morecambe 5-0.

There was also the small matter of him killing his missus  (Crippen not Pomlett)

Last season we used to change the strikers after 60 mins after them fighting and battling. With the addition of 5 subs im not adverse to that tactic so that’s where i think striker additions would work. I think it should be one of Matt or Gordon then another though.

I just feel the loss of Hutchinson will be astronomical if we continue to play this way too, as he would often pick the ball up off the strikers challenge and we would play from there. i like Lakin though so the jurys out, think he could be good box to box. Also like Jellis, but im depressed about watching Stirk for another year.

Despite lots of peoples opinions on the defence i still dont think we will concede many, only concern there is Farquharson looks even slower than he did before , Labadie levels of plodding.

Hoping Adomah/ Barrett on the right can add a bit of marauding spice. Also aint gonna be surprised if Adomah ends up upfront.

If we beat Morecambe 5 nil ill buy you a pint (id buy you one anyway)

Losing hutch is the biggest loss of player to Walsall fc in a long time with what he offered the club

She was the one who just missed out on being chosen for the final line-up, if I remember my 1990s pop history correctly.

Sadler’s interview is up, when asked about further additions before Morecambe, his response was “We’ll see”

That’s the thing, we had Jellis up front for the last twenty minutes…

First time I’d watched us live post-Hutch, and you see the deficit. Lakin makes clever movements that could get us countering, but they just weren’t being picked up.

We just seemed a bit one dimensional without him and we’d probably have recognised that already if he’d ever missed a game.

I would say a fit Earing make a huge difference (as he did last time he was fit) too but ive got my doubts on his fitness long term.

We would have won that with Hutchinson in the team

Guys made of glass, reminds me of a slightly worse cuvelier
Undoubtedly talented but can’t hack football

I hope not. But the concerns are there for me too.

Earing will be the new Rory Holden

Agreed @simon and that was the perfect opportunity post Hutch and the strikers contracts coming to and end was a complete refresh of the team. Change the system, change the strike force. What did RoK say if it’s not broken, break it and go again. Feels like a massive missed opportunity

A lot of our best creative midfielders seem to end up this way with us
Holden was class crocked , cuvelier was class crocked , earing is class crocked
