Just needed cheering up
And a much better goal difference
Just about to put that on the thread. Trivela and Sadler have done nearly everything right this season and I’m confident they’ll do what’s needed to finish this off UTS
We need Matt back in the team ASAP.
player of the season so far and a massive miss at the minute
We’ve got quite a friendly run of games coming up. I’d dread for it to get close by late march where we play AFC Wimbledon, Doncaster and Port Vale in the space of a week. Bring on Salford.
One positive is that our next visitors, Salford have gone way off the boil since Man City thrashed them. Let’s hope we get our act together to get back to winning ways on Saturday.
Cheered me out of my depressed state a little bit has that.
Too much doom and gloom on the match thread . I can understand it immediately after a poor performance but there are mitigating factors. The biggest one being we never going to carry on winning .The second one being we have lost 2 decent midfielders in Hall and Earing who could be brought on to save the legs of the others. The third one being the loss of Matt coupled with the new lad needing time to settle in. We are in a great position so with the right recruitment in the next few days we will be fine ie 2 midfielders and a big lad up front.
Home form will be crucial, but we don’t go from being the best team in the country to completely useless in the space of four days.
We’ll be fine.
I get what fans say regarding a blip and acknowledge we were going to lose games but it’s the manner in which we have lost, we have looked like a team at the bottom, I expected a much tougher resistance even if we lose, opposition fans labelled us a 1 man team when Lowe left, I hope they’re wrong, we have some days left in the transfer window, we need 3 players .An experienced forward and 2 midfielders with creativity minimum.
After the last two games where we’ve conceded five and scored none it’s very easy to think that we are in trouble but we have a good lead over the chasing pack and a dip in form happens to most teams during the season.
Win on Saturday and confidence will be restored and nerves settled a little.
Lose probably doesn’t bear thinking about but we have to trust in the team and management to get us out of this mini slump quickly.
I haven’t been on the match thread yet, just got back from Fleetwood.
I’m not full on negative but it is after two poor performances, very poor actually. It all looks different all of a sudden (on the pitch). We are still in a very strong position.
You are right, we have lost players. Hall, Earing, Lowe, and are relying on a 35 year old Jamma too much. Ben Sadler said we would come out of the window as strong if not stronger. At his moment in time, this is not the case.
I’m going to leave the match thread until tomorrow, I have a lot of thoughts, it’s not all doom and gloom but there is also a little bit of concern about a few things.
But isn’t the match thread there to specifically to discuss the match. The match in isolation.
And in isolation it was crap.
In the context of the season a bit of a blip and nothing to worry about…….
………yet.
The manner of the defeats is more concerning than the actual results.
Very difficult to find anything positive from last night.
Last 2 performance have been shocking.
Lose against Salford and alarm bells will be ringing.
We might have a 11 point cushion……but that could be gone by end of Feb if we don’t strengthen up front and in midfield.
I don’t think the last two performances have been ‘shocking’
Both games we put ourselves in difficult positions by falling behind. Bradford through them finishing well, Fleetwood through sloppy defending which is more annoying.
However once behind we were the ones who looked more in control. It’s not like Bradford or Fleetwood completely dominated the games. In fact, did Fleetwood have an attack in the 2nd half? I know this is partly because of the game state where they can deliberately just frustrate rather than try to create anything themselves, but still it’s possible to imagine a scenario where they go on and win 5-0, and that just didn’t happen.
I still think we will be fine, but need a professional performance against Salford.
I agree we need strengthening but perhaps more with an eye on next season which will obviously be tougher if we go up as I expect.
I don’t buy what you are saying to be honest.
The reason we have done so well this season is because we have been so efficient at both ends of the pitch. The fact we had more of the play when we were losing is largely irrelevant given how we play the game.
We wouldn’t have scored against Fleetwood if we were still playing now.
It’s not the end of the world and I still expect we will go on and achieve promotion but there is no point dressing it up. Really poor last night.
Poorly defending set pieces is part of the game and contributes to it being a poor performance.
But - they were. It’s okay to admit that. Doesn’t discount from the unbelievable season we’ve had so far
I would cancel the promotion party mentality until we get another 15 points.
Make no mistake….without Matt and Lowe up top we can’t play the direct football that has allowed us to dominate the first half of the season.
