Survival Saturday Flow Chart

Swindon in 1989/90 - won promotion to what is now the Premiership via the play-offs but got hit with a punishment of relegation to the 3rd tier for breach of league rules (effectively a drop of 2 levels). On appeal they were allowed to stay in tier 2.

BTW Rangers weren’t relegated as such - the original entity effectively ceased and was replaced by a phoenix club which the Scottish footballing authorities refused to allow to assume the identity and league standing of the defunct club so had to start at the bottom (well Scottish 3rd Division - I think Celtic were holding out for them only to be allowed back somewhere below the Highland League!!)

What about Bury going up from league 2 despite not (again) paying the bills? And of course Coventry with their never ending Ricoh saga…

Reality is they’ll all be in league 1 next season, I can certainly see Bolton starting on -12 so they’ll probably end up in 2 eventually.

I was thinking about that period in the 80’s when they spent it in what is now the Championship - they definitely seemed the bigger club then. Admittedly, since the 90’s we have generally been at a higher level. I only hope that we can pull off the Great Escape today and use it as a springboard to better things.

Whatever happens we won’t have a derby against Solihull Moors as they have just lost to AFC Fylde.

Flyde are another moneybags club so can see them or Salford challenging for league two play offs whoever comes up.

Not two legs?

Conference play offs work in just one goes up automatically and 2nd and 3rd get one off home legs while 4th-7th battle it out.

Gives the higher placed teams an advantage although clearly not today.

Would be like getting a one off home leg v Barnsley in 15/16.
