Did anybody notice a section of fans singing the ira/pope song yesterday… Weir and Dave looked pretty shocked. With our irish contingent surley fans wouls know better.
Half the people that were singing that one I suspect don’t actually realise what they’re singing. I might be wrong.
Why do we even need to sing it. It’s irrelevant
A truly magnificent performance, even a day later it is difficult to put a lid on just how good we were. Today’s debrief was one of sheer ecstasy.
For me we are truly reaping the benefits of stability and solid foundations. There will be tougher tests to come of that there is no doubt but the difference between ourselves and our first two opponents has been night and day. Two basket case clubs against one which has retained the vast majority of its playing staff and all of it’s backroom staff from last year which gave us plenty of promise and progress but ultimately disappointment. I have signalled the virtues of the players we have at the squad and the expectation they can step up and improve individually, and all of the answers to our problems may not lie in signing a load of new players, and collectively and although it’s very early days the signs are they have done exactly that. In that respect I am something of a prophet without honour.
How on earth do you pick a Leamore Windows match hero fron such a game of collective brilliance? Plenty of contenders and any of the outfield 10 would be worthy but I’d like to pick out young Ryan Stirk. Written off by some after a campaign of promise seemed to nosedive in the months of Spring but I thought he was absolutely immense yesterday and gave as close to a perfect performance as you can wish to see.
My S&S Steelstock match rating has to be a 10, Sadler has earned all of our love now, a brilliant young manager doing exceptional things. That new deal we got him to sign looks a fantastic piece of business.
As I begin my summary with, stiffer tests are to come and we are reaping the benefits of a settled squad who work as a true team. Long may the good ship Walsall FC with Mat Sadler guiding us through the choppy waters of League 2 continue on it’s merry way.
About a terrorist group who killed uk citizens ?
And the line which goes “f the pope”?
Many of our supporters are Catholic (I was brought up a Catholic)
Personally, I couldn’t give a flying fart about the song, I don’t get offended.
Some however, will.
I answered why people would sing certain parts. The pope part I have no answers for. Ask them if someone singing it by you
The dark days of what was termed, “the troubles” seems a long way away now to someone who was very aware of the dangers of going to a pub in the mid 70’s. Having a Irish father I was also acutely aware of the anti Irish sentiment around at the time. I recall all of my Irish side of the family cursing the bombers and talking about a family member who had a lucky escape, missing the debris from a bomb going off in Dublin by seconds. Whilst the repurcussions of decades of division and conflict will reverbarate in the communities of Northern Ireland for generations to come I am pleased the worst is over in respect of that conflict. I agree with you completely that those singing the song will have know idea about what they are singing about and the pain that many suffered during those dark times. If they had the gumption to know about their family history many would probably find they have Irish ancestry.
Fantastic debrief @KingCrod
Pointless.
I wouldn’t get a coherent answer, other than, at best, it’s about the IRA.
Its a song designed to promote hatred of Irish Catholics.
I would hope that those days have gone.
Time to consign that song to the bin.
meanwhile, back to the football. I think Lakin made the goal for Jamma when he chased the loose ball and passed to liam Gordon who in turn passed to, (was it Allen?) to cross for Jamma to score. Whilst he hasn’t done as well as Jellis he has made some important contributions. I don’t think this is a Lakin or Earing contest. Earing has had a good impact but given his injury record will probably benefit from 20 to 30 minutes here and there to build up his fitness. I think Sadler believes in the squad and not just 11 players. Everyone will play a part as there will be more injuries, loss of form, improvements in form as the season progresses. Include DD in that.
Even if I don’t always agree with all he says in his debriefs . This site is so much better with our king crod .
Absolutely.
From when I first started watching football, when it was pretty much the same XI every week, with one sub, the game has changed massively.
Most teams send on 3 or more substitutes every game, decent squad depth is vital
One thing that we seem to have improved on is the delivery into the box from open play. We all know how pitiful it was last season, hitting the first man or sending the ball sailing over everyone. Barrett has provided more quality from the right as many of us expected, but Liam Gordon seems to have put some work in over the summer. It’s also a big help to have two left footers in Allen and Lakin on the same side backing him up
Stirk looked the real deal on Saturday. Class.
Yep…but don’t upset those who suggest these aren’t ‘true fans’.
Friendlies and cup games are so much more enjoyable. UTS
Can’t get the “Ohh Albert Adomah” song out my head
Anyone else?
Thought i was the only one…its a constant loop.
I think you have misunderstood Pep Sadler’s revolutionary 3,7,0,0 formation
The 3 remaining players will act as blocking defenders behind the 7 man centre back combination like Spewtin currentky practices
