Swindon Town (A) - League 2 - Sat 17th August, 3:00pm

Considering the amount of southern irish players we’ve had over the years I can’t believe we have fans that still want to sing it, to name a few Mick Kearns, David OKelly, kinsellas etc etc and present ones mcentee, Dave, weir etc
These players play or have played for our club and have links to Ireland, as anyone ever wondered how they feel about it ?
I too descend from Irish catholics and aren’t bothered in the slightest by it but I’m sure the Irish born lads will find it awkward, each to their own but I’d sooner put my efforts into backing the lads regardless of their religion.

My Dad and all of his side of the family are Catholic. I can’t say that it offends me as such but it is a bit embarrassing and I can see why some would be offended by it. The most pointless of songs at a Walsall game.

It wasn’t just a few singing it Saturday, I reckon though that a lot just join in and don’t really think about what they are singing. We were winning, a few beers had been drunk and it is a catchy tune. I have never sung it but I do think that is the case.

Honestly, I only really like songs about Walsall, that’s why we are there , to get behind the lads.

Isn’t it a Rangers song, and we do have a huge section of our fanbase who also support Rangers, apparently…

Literally thousands :joy:

Celtic are my Scottish choice due to family history but I’d look a fool if I started singing Celtic songs at a Walsall game, imagine Walsall fans singing a rangers song at a Walsall game and thinking it’s cool :joy:
Either way I’m not bothered by it but could understand if it offends are Irish born lads who are working their socks off for us.

It’s hard to think of much to add to a really constructive and positive thread.

It was a great team performance and thought everyone was at least a seven out of ten. Stirk was the player who we saw at start of last season with a brilliant box to box performance.

I still think we need at least one more up front but fair play to Jamma and Flash for their respective goals, the sort of goals that would expect of them.

Any word on Flash’s Hammy yet?

I believe that he was last seen with Morrocan mole at the small woodland animal transfer rumours group get together on Saturday night

I see on Swindon’s forum they held a vote for their Motm which their goalkeeper won beating “non of the above” into 2nd place.
