The Official Summer Transfer Rumour Thread - 2025 edition

Look, we have all got to get over the total b******* that was made of the second half of last season.I pay my money and want to enjoy the prospect, however optimistically of a new season arriving. I get the pessimism, I really do, and it gutted me at the time and still does to some extent, but life goes on. If you live in the past and constantly see the negativity of things that is of course your perogative. Contant negatvity is a self fulfilling mantra. The moaning minnies have certainly got a great deal of ammunition to use, and I’ve fired off a few shots myself in the past. I really want to get some enjoyment out of what’s left of my Saddlers supporting time. It’s far easier to be negative than positive especially for us Saddlers, but let’s get behind the lads,if not the manager one more time. If we get let down again then I will probably join the minnies ranks, but, after 57 years
I’m too far gone to change. If you’re a negatve subscriber try some optimism it might make you enjoy life more. I know it’s hard I really do. Please give it a go. Hope is better than regret. Here ends the last lesson. Sorry! UTS

I get your sentiment, and you do you if it makes you happy, but I think a lot of us are still grieving, and it will take a long time to move on.

It’s only promotion this season now, that will allow people to forgive and forget, otherwise last season will long be referenced in relation to our constant failure to get out of this division, or worse.

I’m grieving too, but it’s not going to ruin my hopes and aspirations. We all grieve in different ways. I genuinely wish you well and hope this season leads to renewed vigor for all of us.

Ridiculous giving contracts to players who are past it like Jamma, Gordon,Priestley, comley and now another inexperienced squad filler.

Then we don’t have the budget for quality.

Complete mismanagement

Precisely.

So why are you telling others to all grieve the same way as you?

I’m not telling anyone to do anything. I think you’re response sums up my point. I think you’ve won mate. It’s a waste of time. Think this is my last post on UTS . Its too depressing.

I do understand that we have to move on, but last season’s demise after January, was the saddest and most stressful time in recent memory. The prize was in our hands and in typical ‘Walsall’ amateur fashion (on and off the pitch) we destroyed something beautiful. Knowing we will probably never get another chance at it. The pressure, rightly or wrongly, will be on these new kids and the manager, from the first minute.
The only way to correct last season’s ‘cliff fall’ is to get promotion. Fans have lost a major ingredient in success…trust!

That’s the first time you’ve said anything that is close to cheery. Enjoy the rest of your sad life. Definite end to conversation now. Sweet dreams.

We will make the same mistakes you can see it coming already with the profile of player we are signing so far the midfield and defence will be ripped a new arsehole as it stands lack of pace lack of experience is not a great combination.
Peppercorn transfer fees do not cancel out paying a decent wage.``

No mate, Walsall will do that for you. People post what they think and feel.

Forget last season (if only) I’m more concerned about the upcoming season. I am holding on to the hope there are at least two more quality players coming in, or we will be also rans at best. That is me being positive, because everything that has gone before tells me it won’t happen, and that is where I am at.

You don’t need to leave just because others don’t feel the same as you. I get your point, but we aren’t all the same.

With the exception of MK Dons, no other team in the division are making experienced, high end, top quality signings.

Average age of each teams arrivals

Accrington: 21.5
Barnet: 26.6
Barrow: 24.9
Bristol Rovers: 26.1
Bromley: 24.3
Cambridge: 21.1
Cheltenham: 25.4
Chesterfield: 20.6
Colchester: 23.4
Crawley: 25.1
Crewe: 18.8
Fleetwood: 26
Gillingham: 26.3
Grimsby: 22.2
Harrogate: 24.9
MK: 25.9
Newport: 21.1
Notts County: 23.6
Oldham: 27.3
Salford: 24.2
Shrewsbury: 27.6
Swindon: 20.8
Tranmere: 27.3
Walsall: 21.8

Ours would shoot up to 24.3 should we bring in Sawyers and someone like Flint.

Only three teams in the league have signed players with more of an average age than what they’ve let go. MK, Crawley and Fleetwood.

So 21/24 teams have got younger squads than what they had last season.

Interesting that people have tipped Chesterfield to finish so highly with what they’ve bought in, only three of their eight signings have any sort of EFL experience.

I do understand that one of two more older heads would be great, but we do have quite alot of experience already here, Adomah, Matt, Hornby, Gordon, Comley, Farquharson and Lakin are all pretty experienced.

If you look back to the squad we had in 15/16, we only had five players over the age of 26 in a 31 man squad.

Interesting stats them @Bags10 . What I’d counter about the experienced lads we’ve already got. How many would you class as starters?. Uncs, hornby, jamma off the bench. I can see Gordon playing more. Priestly is an unknown in terms of fitness and Comley maybe would start a few. If we get a couple of midfielders in i can’t see Comley starting that many. The need for experienced starters is key to help the lads imo

As we havent seen Farq i presume he injured himself getting off the treatment table.

What a disappointing signing all round he has been.
