The Amantchi situation is a strange one in the context of his end of season social media message when he said how much more he was looking to contribute this season, and even more so the fact that the, at the time, quite illusive Mat Sadler did a whole piece in the E and S in early June dedicated to how much he thought Amantchi had to offer once he’d had a full pre-season at professional level.
To go from what he said in that article to stating that he hasn’t had a kick pre-season because of his position in the pecking order is absolutely chalk and cheese so something’s gone on. Even Wragg’s had pre-season minutes ahead of him!! Not withstanding the monumental skew of the “pecking order” a fit Josh Gordon does to Sadler, it looks as though Mat has done a complete Keir Starmer on Amantchi since June 5th.
I’m starting to think that we’re essentially going to play one up front with two playing just off, like we ended last season. Amantchi wouldn’t really fit that system in my opinion because he can’t lead the line, and isn’t technically good enough to be one of the two. That would also explain how Sadler thinks we’re well stocked with forwards even though we’ve lost 3 and added 2.
Think we’ll be two up top, all pre season games we’ve played with that system. If Levi goes so be it. Don’t think he’s the calibre of striker to get us out of the league
I would agree from what we’ve seen so far. I also saw Amantchi play a few times when he was young and on loan at Blyth. I was disbelieving when we paid money to sign him, even more so when he was described by both Ben and Mat Sadler as a long term target.
That said, there’s always hope and I’d hoped he would have improved, as I’d hope he would improve further this summer with the full pre-season Sadler was waxing over just 6 weeks ago.
Sorry I forgot about that 37 minute cameo. That makes it even stranger surely, as it suggests he was fit and in Sadler’s plans. Anyroad, we’ll see what happens.
Cant imagine Levi is on much on the grand scheme of things (and i dont think he is at all as bad as some make out) but if we want another striker one will certainly have to move on. And its not gonna be Gordon as his running stats must be immense
If he was injured surely we would just say that so he must be off.
Ironically, if the club did move Amantchi on it might actually be a sign that Sadler and Trivela are learning after the January and 2nd half of the season fiasco given he is bang average at best and isn’t what we needed then and isn’t what we need now.
I do think the fact that he scored 4 goals in league 2 and has a good record at the second level of the National League would have him on the radar of ambitious clubs at that level, and there’s plenty of them. If we could get someone even dafter than us to pay money for him then happy days.
