The Official Summer Transfer Rumour Thread - 2025 edition

Yow bin sitting in the sun again drinking that madri badger piddle.

Why not? I’d say it’s a definite possibility. It’s established as a pattern , and none of the club’s attempted explanations of failure have even acknowledged the main part of it.

You didn’t just ‘call someone a liar’ though, did you.

You accused them of ‘chatting shit as usual’, which the user took justifiable offence to and flagged. The flag was upheld because one of the basic principals of the site guidelines is to be civil and respectful.

Yes, there are similar posts that get missed, similar exchanges where no-one will take offence and it goes unseen or is allowed to pass. UTS has 1,000 odd posts a day and a few active mods, each with busy lives and neither the time or inclination to scrutinise every interaction.

There’s no favouritism, you’re not being targeted, I don’t know you and you’re nowhere near important enough that I’d spend time victimising you on a football forum. You’ve had a few bans, a faux site resignation, that’s the extent of our interaction.

The moderation is an imperfect but workable system run by volunteers, without which this site ceases to exist.

I gave you the opportunity to discuss this matter by DM, you didn’t want to. No need for the issue to be discussed by you or anyone else on the open forum.

You done now? You also modded my post which didn’t say that though. A post which was absolutely fine.

As I said on message, I’m not interested in engaging with you anymore :man_shrugging:t2:

That’s what it falls down to ultimately. The most significant issue halting progress, incremental or otherwise.

This is true, but in reality it is caused by the summer recruitment to an extent.

For the past 3 seasons, in January we have been trying to replace a key player, rather than focusing on strengthening the team. To happen once is bad enough but 3 years in a row.

That isn’t to say your point isn’t right, we have still failed badly in the January window. I thought that we had enough to get over the line regardless last season, and I still do think that. However, the more I look at it, the more weight I put on the signings contributing to the failure. When you think we ended up with Matt playing up front on his own, and Amantchi as his replacement, I think that says a lot about it.

I think @Blazing_Saddler is spot on as regards the previous January transfer windows.
The bizarre thing was despite new faces coming in last January some only got a game when Mat Sadler had no choice ie when Barrett was suspended and others never played at all.
Moving on from the disaster of last season it would be nice if we could see a few signings this week because it’s getting very close to the start of the new season and it’s very quiet on that front.

I believe said piddle doesn’t exist in Spain because it’s actually a made up beer that’s brewed over here.

Mahou, on the other hand, is a bloody lovely drop.

Yes, this has been an unfortunate run of similar events; one year we lost two players recalled, with Laim Bennett going back to Cambridge. The DJ loan recall was different from the rest due to its circumstances but the other three were because the players did far better for us than anyone had predicted. I still feel that they were good summer recruitments, those players, but, as you say, we were chasing shadows in January.

Last January, Wheatley was a fair punt that did not work out but I was disappointed with Harrison from the start. That’s one reason I do not buy this argument for experience unless that experience is top class, which Sawyers would be and, in the past, players such as Kevin Wilson were.

The thing with Harrison, he was never likely to work out.

I think he could be a good player but a combination of him arriving not match fit, being injury prone and being asked to play a role that probably wasn’t natural to him, meant he stood little chance. I think he showed flashes, but ultimately didn’t work out.

I don’t think he was ever an intended signing, the forwards signings in the end seemed panic signings rather than well thought out.

Yes, I agree. January is not the time to seek out a decent striker. Everyone is still under contract and perhaps the best you can hope for is someone returning from injury or a young player on loan. .

Something that crossed my mind, Pressley went on loan to Barrow in January right?

Do you think he is one of the targets that went elsewhere while we were waiting on Draper, would make sense as they said Draper was being brought in to take the pressure off Jamille.

Possibly, but Pressley would have complemented Lowe, not replaced him. If we had had Pressley and Lowe upfront, we would definitely have been promoted, as champions.

Probably not on our radar until we played Barrow and he created havoc.

I sniff a signing today or in next 24 hours :worm:
