The Official Summer Transfer Rumour Thread - 2025 edition

Alfie Chang was Richard Wilford on WM before the 3pm games. Said he’d been speaking to someone at Blues and Walsall had been in touch about another loan for him and both parties were keen.

He has been covering them for probably 25 years on WM so incredibly well connected and wouldn’t just make stuff up like that.

Of course he might be holding out for a league one loan so might not happen until right at the end of the window.

Just listened to it back to see what was said, Wilford doesn’t state that we’ve been in touch and both parties are keen.

He says Chang back to Walsall would be a really good fit and it should be one that Walsall should try and get done.

Back to Target A Dylan Sloan :eyes::joy:

I personally have doubts it will happen especially since we have now signed this Lewis Warrington on a permanent.

Wouldnt Chang play in the CM position with Lakin Jellis and Holman?

So Chang isn’t going to happen. Our central midfield options are Comley, Warrington and possibly Lakin.

We wait patiently for Sloan.

The question is, will we bring in another striker to cover Pressley and Stuttle or will we rely upon Matt, Gordon and Adomah.

Mellon or Faal would be a massive sign of intent.

Clarke and Hollman also

I think Clarke and Hollman are more attacking midfield options, along with Jellis, Lakin, Maher and Adomah (?).

I’m guessing Enniskillen was referring to the CDM position which Comley, Warrington and possibly Lakin can fill.

Would replace Lakin I’d imagine who of course wasn’t really a regular last season.

Hollman as it stands an unknown quantity in how he adapts to the game over here.

If Hollman does adapt then it does feel like Maher signing on for two more years is a bit of a waste for his career.

Gordon has to be going out on loan at some stage in next few weeks (Solihull would take him I’m sure) so there is certainly room for another CF going by the options this time last year.

He’s 20 years old. I’m begging people to have a bit more patience with Maher.

A few cup games, a few sub appearances, maybe a couple of development games is more than enough for an U21 at this stage.

Lakin played nearly 50 games last season and was pretty much the first name on the team sheet. Holman, Jellis, Lakin, Chang and Maher waiting in the wings would be a very strong midfield

Lakin was a regular up to February, I wouldn’t suggest he was a regular beyond that stage of the season.

In my opinion Lakin will be pivotal to the team this season - he has the potential to have a big impact on games and I reckon with the mix we now have around him, he’ll make a significant contribution..

I thought he was a very underrated part of the team last season, also.

He’s not the most skilful player ever, and he does lack a touch of pace but he always does a solid job for the team in my opinion.

Up to 1st January 2025 Lakin was a first choice midfielder for virtually every league game. For reasons best known to Mat Sadler he only started 9 of the remaining 26 matches.

Agree.
I think Lakin was the easy option to leave out to accommodate Hall, when perhaps Jellis needed a rest.
