The Official Summer Transfer Rumour Thread - 2025 edition

Id imagine we’re looking at loans for Maher and Gordon for sure and maybe hollman

No way for Holman, not with the build up he had.

I’m expecting him to start.

23 players, not including 3rd choice goalkeeper.

1 too many in midfield, maybe one too many many strikers if you include Adomah.

Just had a quick look to see how it compares to every other club in the division.

Crewe - 3
Chesterfield - 4
MK - 14
Grimsby - 8
Fleetwood - 7
Swindon - 7
Salford - 2
Tranmere - 7
Colchester - 8
Bromley - 4
Harrogate - 7
Gillingham - 8
Newport - 5
Cambridge - 9
Barrow - 7
Oldham - 10
Notts County - 9
Accrington - 6
Shrewsbury - 7
Bristol Rovers - 6
Barnet - 9
Crawley - 8
Cheltenham - 4

Average seems to be about 7

Think that’s why the likes of Matt were re-signed, they obviously want a young squad with older players dotted around the squad to guide them, give them a big contract then when they reach the end of their first year you’ll see major improvement and the end of the second year, that’s when they’ll be at their peak with close to 100 appearances to their name.

So has Dylan Sloan signed or is it misinformation? Are we looking at another George Hall situation.

Dunno why we have signed a midfielder on loan when we could have pushed the boat out and got sloan.. pinny pinching i think

Sounds to me like I said the other day mate - primary aim is young players in, with sell on value.

That works if we go up - if not we find ourselves re-setting again and taking two/three years to get players up to 100 appearances again.

Going back to our ‘5’ - I’d suggest it’s only really one with Lakin. Hornby is a back up keeper, Farq won’t start, Gordon can’t get in squad and is rubbish, and Comley is a 6/10.

It does seem that way yes.

Hopefully a peak performance striker is signed soon :crossed_fingers:t2:

Thought the feeling was that Trivela hadn’t spent enough on wages?

Finnigan would obviously be on more than Sloan being a League 1 player.

So wouldn’t necessarily say it’s penny pinching.

But sloan would have been our player and not recalled.. always seems to be as soon as another club is interested then we have to take a back seat.. with permanent transfers

We first bid for him over 7 weeks ago.

They didn’t want to sell because of them being in Europe.

Probably took too long and we’ve moved onto other players.

Thanks for that Giglee.
What does everyone else think is an ideal number for a squad?
In theory 2 players for each position sounds fine. Last season we did this, but even after long term injuries to the Preist, DD, Earing, Gordon and Comley, I never got the feeling that we were scraping the bottom of the barrel to fill the bench. Indeed guys like Weir, Asimwe and others on occasions were still not making the matchday squad despite the long term absentees.
Bearing in mind that some of our defenders and midfielders can play in multiple positions, do we really need such a big squad? Wouldn’t the wages spent on say players number 21-24 be better spent on improving the quality of our strikers?

I discount Flash and Matt

Didn’t you say sloan was done?

This

I was being sarcastic

Westie also mentioned it

Not every rumour will be correct, but it makes things interesting when some people know a bit more than others.
