The Official Summer Transfer Rumour Thread - 2025 edition

Keep reading this…I was at the Morecambe game, which was an okish performance against a poor team - Gordon was annonymous other than his falling over routine and inevitable booking. We were poor against Tranmere when he got hooked after an hour. I don’t remember him doing anything of note in the games against Exeter or Huddersfield. The only game I didn’t watch before his injury was the one at Swindon when he scored, so maybe he was fantastic in that game.

When he briefly became available again and was shoehorned in ahead of DJ, he was awful in the few games he played.

Hope he bounces back and scores loads of goals, but he’s been a waste of space for two years with injuries and form. Would probably benefit from a drop down to non-league, either on loan or better still, full stop.

He was at Wembley watching the play off final. Not sure if thats a positive or a negative lol

I will defend Josh Gordon. Utterly selfless and clearly doing a lot of defensive work that is very unappreciated.

Perhaps with his injury record he is no longer a sensible pick going forwards, so from that PoV I can’t quibble if fans complain about him and no problem with fans who don’t like the style of play which I also understand.

But similarly no time for fans who moan about Gordon AND then also moan about our results. We are Walsall not Real Madrid.

You need to replace “self” with “use”! He scored 1 goal in 23 games the season before last!! By the law of averages, if I had played, I could have been in the right place at least once in 23 games and scored. He’s not a striker, he should be used in midfield, or sold!

Any white smoke on transfers coming from the Bescot?!!! It’s a bit dull at the moment.

Nothing from Westie Jack yet?

But you’re judging his value solely on goals he scores.

You need to value him on his overall contribution to the result that includes chances and space created for others AND stopping opponents creating chances.

I know it’s difficult. I know we all prefer Nathan Lowe, but we can’t afford him unfortunately.

@MoroccoMole stuck his nose out of his burrow for a post yesterday, but quickly retreated so no firm rumours.

Going back in time a bit. Josh made space for players around him by his selfless off the ball running. Notably Adebayo. You can’t measure him on goals scored IMO.

This is just a ridiculous re-telling of the last 18 months.

Where is this myth that Josh Gordon is some sort of ultra gegen press monster?

He is a league two striker - he fouls all the time (more yellow cards than goals in his career), and actually I think he’s pretty rubbish at pressing as he charges around like a wild Hog - leaving massing gaps.

Please don’t re-write history.

Mmmmmm I am watching and observing.

But in truth, maybe others or Westie can corroborate - but the club have some new recruitment people in position - and my normal spies are not as privy to the information as before. Which could be a good thing… I will continue to update if I hear any whispers on the wind…

I will say one thing however, the offer to Stirk was essentially derisory. Chesterfield’s offer was 2x what we offered.

Now pass me my worms!

You’re entitled to your view, if you don’t think he contributes to making defenders lives difficult, stops them building an attack and offers an outball with his running down the channels that’s fine, I can’t really convince you other than to say rewatch the games.

I know you don’t enjoy the style of football either which is fine and I understand and agree with.

I’ll just leave this stat.

Matt and Gordon starting together W10 D2 L4

What is that stat supposed to mean or signify? Do you want me to take a random period the season with them pair? :joy:

I thought Harrison, before he got injured, was more effective at pressing.

Just that over 16 games, a reasonable sample period, they have proved successful.

It’s been discussed to death, can’t really add much more.

Oh we know that.

Thankyou for this input.

Further up Geordie said I can’t remember Josh Gordon doing anything

But it’s what he allows others to do and what he stops the opposition doing that are what is being missed.

Not saying he is the world’s most valuable player and I wouldn’t be upset if he didn’t play for Walsall again, but he really doesn’t deserve the flak he gets.

Six years ago. He isn’t close to that level anymore especially with the long injury lay off last year.

31 in October, always found it odd he got a two year deal rather than 12 months as I doubt there was a stampede of clubs after him.

Which brings up two things:

  1. We weren’t that bothered about keeping him - which hopefully means we have someone better lined up.
  2. He went for the MONEY - nothing to do with the style of football!!

Yet some people will still spout buzz words like ‘togetherness’ as a stick to shake at Sadler as if they wouldn’t leave their current job for double the money.
