The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread 2024 II

Agreed, for me:

Back up GK
Back up RWB
2x Forwards

If the money is available a nice to have would also be a ball playing midfielder too

I agree on the numbers of bodies - maybe a goalkeeper, right wing back and striker and we’ll be done.

It’s more the goals we’ve lost from last season that I think could cost us.

In my opinion we need a prolific striker and maybe somebody who offers goals from midfield - but then I can’t see us signing a midfielder as Jellis is sort of a new signing in hindsight as he was clearly signed with this season in mind and I assume RAM will feature in midfield.

Certainly not the finished article in commanding his box, which is one of the reasons we conceded so many goals from crosses. I would like to have kept him - I’m sure we only went for Simkin because we didn’t think Smith was staying - I don’t believe Simkin would have been our number one keeper over Smith. Let’s how Simkin can be the new Rushworth - the latter is the best keeper we’ve had since Etheridge.

lol. All the good people that leave are easily replaceable just like all the good players we miss out on ā€˜we can do better’

yet our average league position over the last 4 seasons is 14th in League 2 !!!

Are we all waiting for 5pm for this ā€œmossiveā€ signing? Any rumours??

Smith was ā€œalrightā€. He wasn’t great and he wasn’t rubbish. Saved some stuff he shouldn’t have, cost us goals he shouldn’t have.

4 year deal at a League One Club, he’s never going to turn that down, and there’s nothing we could do to change that.

I’ll say this, get his agent a medal.

Smith is replaceable for me think people overrated him because of the rapid decline of Owen Evans. Worried about him with crosses and his distribution was still slow in my opinion.

Good luck to him in league 1 his agent has done a blinder. A 4 year deal is crazy to me, never going to turn that down for us.

jordan rossiter ?

knowing walsall though Leonard rossiter :joy:

Fair enough, thats your opinion.

Obviously the player had options, out of contract in 4 months.
He decided on moving to Stockport.
We don’t know whether or not WFC were interested.

If we were, I wouldn’t expect communication from the club.
It would be very unusual for a club to make a comment about players who chose not to sign for us (if that is the case).

I might have a look at Swansea’s website, apparently they offered Jackson Smith a contract, lets see if they made an announcement about him turning them down in favour of Barnsley :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Decent keeper no great shakes though, not worth pushing the boat out to retain

described (him) as an ā€œauthoritative central midfield presenceā€ with ā€œan extensive passing repertoire with either foot and an eye for goalā€.

Sounds ideal, see he turned down a new deal at Bristol Rovers so would appear unlikely he’ll pitch up in L2.

don’t know. Number of appearances would seem to imply he’s not always first choice in league 1. eye for goal lol. not according to the stats

but that’s the name floating around

Agreed normally i wouldnt mind that, but this is a very unusual circumstance where we have a partnership with Drog , but never the less its done now

horrendous injury record and is already on trial at Stockport

Sounds like there was an excellent player there once, but his injury record is awful.

The partnership with Drogheda makes no difference.
The decision on where a player moves to is down to the player, not Trivela.

Trivela can only refuse (or agree) to sell him to another club whilst he is in contract.
He is out of contract in four months, the player has all the power in this instance.

Just the type of player we’d sign then.

Exactly this. Plenty of mediocre players we can get out there on loan. Can’t help but think that the money we’ve spent on the likes of Matt and Flash, who are good squad players, could’ve been spent on a true goal scorer to spearhead our campaign. You can’t argue that we can’t get players like Matt and Flash on loan because we loaned both of them before we signed them. You can make the same arguement with DJ too if we’re not going to play him.
