I will be leaving my pool, sunbed, wife, sister in law and brother in laws company and 30 degrees sunshine for an hour and a half this afternoon to watch the game, if thats not support what is?
Re the money to the club though not sure how much is in it for them. There are a huge amount of iptv services out there where people watch the games
That’s pretty hardcore to be honest.
I go to every game home and away unless I’m ill.
It started with my dad and two older brothers and has continued for sixty five years. I won’t criticise anyone for how they choose to watch Walsall because it’s their choice. I find myself watching away games on bitterly cold Tuesday evenings and thinking what the hell am I doing when I could be in the house nice and warm, especially if we’re playing badly.
In the years that lie ahead I’ll almost certainly have to reduce and finally stop going to the away games but for now I’m ok.
If you watch it on ifollow I guess a case could be made that you’re still supporting, but firesticks and things like that then they won’t get a penny as you haven’t paid for it through the club.
It’s a good job that we’ve got a mixture of fans and supporters, otherwise the ground wouldn’t be big enough!!!
Are we really delving into the definitions and semantics of a fan or supporter, does it really matter? I mean what if you’ve only been going to games for 1 year, do you have enough in the bank to be classed as a supporter instead of a fan or is there a minimum prison sentence of attending Walsall games before you can claim that badge. If you’ve been going for 30+ years is there a greater level of supporter or is that more reason to seek medical help
Go or don’t go, watch on iFollow or whichever device/channel you wish, ultimately there is one common goal, to see a successful Walsall team.
Agreed, but people are just answering the question how they see it Without discussion (which for a change doesn’t involve arguments) the whole forum would be pointless.
All so sad is it not, here’s hoping that the Trivela ‘new era’ eventually comes to fruition, progress on the board room case, just need them to oust the ‘olde guard’ completely to flush out Bonser like acceptance of failure as the norm. Pity about the strange choice of manager though.
Myself, I tend to watch on telly, can’t stand trying to evade the M6 car park these days.
But do go to away matches when I can.
Disagree totally.
My argument more to the point for all the glory hunters who buy their sky subscription and think that’s their season ticket every season and call themselves proper fans without ever seeing old Trafford/anfield etc In their whole life in the flesh. I know manu fans who watch them weekly on tv and go to 3/4 games a season and I call them proper fans because they make the effort to actually go. It really doesn’t all matter anyway but by and large proper fans will make the effort to go when possible. If I didn’t go to walsall for say 10 years and someone asked who I support I would say “ Walsall my team but I don’t go and support them anymore because of so and so) anyways you’ve probably heard enough on my take on it.
Some would say lunacy.
Very difficult to explain to a 12 and 13 Yr old why you have to queue 30 mins just to get a drink
Absolutely shite from Trivela to be honest. How badly organised are they
Just ‘easier’ to watch on the tele
A good friend of mine watches a lot of premiership and champions league stuff on tv. He enjoys the high quality and technical skill of football at that level. He came to a game at bescot with me once and looked askance at the head tennis and crude clearances going over the roof of the stand.
In contrast i rarely watch any footie on tv. I care more about the drama and excitement, humour and banter of a live game with a crowd. I love to see a great piece of skill or a good move, but thats no the be all and end all for me. I go and watch halesowen in non league when we’re away or i fancy a change - they are playing some lovely stuff, scoring hatfuls of goals and getting 1,000 plus crowds at the moment.
We’re both true supporters/fans in my eyes.
This.
Funnily enough my 2nd team is Man Utd and I do watch some Walsall games on ifollow, but I can assure you that I’m an out and out Walsall fan since I was a child and so are my 3 sons . ( who are all regular posters on UTS by the way)
I think I’d agree with that. With ifollow, at least a bit of the money gets back to the club. I suppose you could make the same case for , say a Sky sub , but it’s probably no more than pennies that filter through to your club. And you’re basically giving the same to their rivals anyway.
Got to take issue with that.
Far more people now attend football than in the decades before the TV explosion. TV has also played a huge role in the development of womens’ football, and has taken football generally to wider audiences and help popularise the sport in other countries, many of whom now compete on the world stage having developed or improved their own leagues and talent. You mention “tourists” as though they are a negative, not sure why. We used to have a bunch of Belgians following Walsall, they were great lads and it was always a better day when they attended.
The negatives of the influence of tv has been the hugely disproportionate bottlenecking of the money at the top end of the game, but counter to that is the fact that we currently have the likes of Luton, Bournemouth… Brentford, Burnley, Brighton etc in the top flight, so its hardly a closed shop. And also the kickoff times that make life difficult for fans.
While watching man United vs Brighton last weekend on match of the day. There was a manu fan in the crowd with an half and half scarf on who stood up when Brighton scored taking photos fgs. You have tourists at arsenal during the match watching their laptops not even watching the match and the list is endless. Give me an empty seat next to me than some tourist who doesn’t have a clue.
There haven’t been 30 minute queues for ages, yeah you might get times where there are maybe 5 minutes, but at any event/bar where there are a few hundred people there may be times you might be in a queue, it isn’t Trivela’s fault
