Tranmere Rovers (A) - League 2 - Sat 24th August, 12:30pm

Hutchinson was pretty efficient last year.

I agree so far anyway. Weirdly though I was sat in front of a guy who spent most of his time after Lakin was subbed chuntering to somebody on his phone about what an awful decision it was and that ā€œCharlie was our best player and he wasn’t happy and it was it was all bullshitā€ or words to that effect. I am assuming it must have been Lakin’s dad. Shades of Kieron Morris’s mom

One of the most frustrating games to watch , we deserved a draw at least .
We just didn’t have that nous to unlock the defence
Albert should have replaced Jellis , he’s got the skill to unlock a defence

Long way to go yet but early signs are good

I would have kept Barrett on and replaced Jellis for Adomah.

In this type of game I feel Adomah would be more effective centrally, potentially that bit of quality needed to unlock their defence.

One shot on target, a missed penalty, a target man who struggled to stay on his feet and times and an industrious but overall unremarkable midfield.

Walsall have got a lot of players who will get a 6/10 each week but very few who will get an 8 - ESPECIALLY creatively going forward.

Also - are any of us surprised that Farq got injured….again?

The potential is there in the team but Earing needs to come in and Jamma needs to be rotated.

THE most positive takeaway is that McEntee looks so much better playing in the backline.

Earing to start above Lakin for me . Think earing has looked lively each game he has come on this season . Without his unity pre season I think he would have started the season

We had more possession in that game we have had for quite some time . I’m very hopeful given what I’ve watched so far this season but I wonder if we have room for one more creative midfielder ?
Other consideration is with priest getting injured we now really only have Williams , maybe the need for a loan centre half ?

Really disappointing overall… little or no creativity all game and for me Sadler struggled to think of and deploy a plan B, a clear missed opportunity. I don’t really expect us to progress against what appears to be a very good Huddersfield team so next Saturdays result and performance against Cheltenham could be very important to keep some positivity and momentum around the place. We are looking solid but not dynamic enough to be convincing but of course it’s the early knockings of a long season. I would love to see one more addition in midfield, but doubt we will spend the money needed on wages to bring in the quality needed but you never know what can crop up in the final week of the window madness

I thought the ref was happy to blow for fouls on them but wave away fouls on us, that foul for the equalizer should never have been he just breathed on him and he went down.

The foul he gave for the free kick that lead to the goal was terrible too, Lakin kicks the ball waist height and Cameron Norman ducks his head into it and he gives it for a high foot.

When Clearly is 100% I would like to see a plan B or C as 4-3-3 or 3-4-3 depending on the defensive make up
Adomah on the right and as Clearly likes to be on the left side he can have that slot and anyone of the other three strikers in the centre
Of course 4-2-3-1 could also be an option

One of them days. I don’t think we played particularly badly and if we’d scored the pen I think we’d have gone on to win by a couple.

Them scoring shortly after just settled them and they knew all they had to do then was deal with our long balls but once they did we should have changed it. Matt was a handful and although I wanted him to stay on, with about 15 to go I’d have liked to see him come off for Cleary. His physique might have caused their defence problems. That said, Lowe came on for Gordon and looked sharp, think he’ll do well.

A couple of things for me is I’m not sure whether Simkin can command his box well enough, and with DD and probably PF out now I think we’ll struggle a bit against balls into our box. Also not impressed with Lakin so far but there are options to replace him so not too concerned by that one.

Onto Cheltenham (via Huddersfield in the cup), a winnable home game for sure.

We’d used our three substitute intervals once we brought on Adomah and Maher.

Must be because I forgot he was even on the pitch :put_litter_in_its_place:

One thing is for sure in my opinion and that’s that we look the best we’ve looked as a team for a good few years.Early days granted but it’s the first time in a long time that I feel as if we have a side capable of being in and around the top 7 this season.

What are the three substitute intervals?

Definitely signs are better.

Disappointing we couldn’t find a way to grind a point out of the game. That’s football for ya. It’s the way you bounce back that matters.

You can make 5 subs but only 3 separate occasions. Half-time doesn’t count because the game doesn’t stop for that.

I think that is correct.

Strange considering in the presser he said don’t be surprised that we take up the 3 remaining loans up. Only Lowe been signed since. Wonder what’s changed?. Feels like we’ll possibly need a CB cover with the 2 injuries and i still think we need a midfielder who can put his foot on the ball and pick an attacking pass out.

Probably doesn’t want to say ā€œyeah one will be coming inā€, then one doesn’t come in after what’s gone on in the last month or so.
