Might well be. We’ll see i guess. His hand maybe forced with injuries though.
Also his hand maybe forced by what he saw today. He said he expects us to face teams may try similar tactics against us and we have to be able to find away through. So if he hasn’t seen a solution within the current squad he might need to bring in a player who can unlock a defence
Absolutely. Adkin’s worked us out, even though his injuries may have played a part.
We made hard work of beating Morecambe who stuck loads of men behind the ball. We hammered Swindon because they gave us space and we were very good moving the ball. Tranmere weren’t having that.
We need to adapt to be able to play on the front foot and on the counter when necessary. I’m sure that we can.
I was disappointed today that we didn’t try something different. Not just different players but a different approach. It seemed the only thing we really tried was getting out wide and putting crosses in but it’s probably the easiest thing to defend against when a team is sitting back and have a lead to hold on to.
I don’t know what kind of player Cleary is, but we would definitely benefit from a player that can run behind defenders and turn them round a bit. Gordon got onto a flick-on and should have scored but other than that it was all in front of them.
It’s early days and easy to nit pick when you have just lost. No way we should have lost the game to be fair but I am really disappointed we couldn’t find a way to take home at least a point.
Couldn’t we Atleast try and change age formation once in a While during a game if it isn’t working?
Did we need 5 at the back today ?
No that’s why we played 3 and pushed the wing backs on
Talking to a few sensible Tranmere fans tonight they thought we looked a good side and fancy us to do well this season and they’ve already seen us Vale and Notts County a couple thought we were the best of the three.
Absolutely agree with you re us doing the same thing over and over. I said to my mate it’s pointless continuing with crossing the ball because we’re getting nowhere with it so why don’t we play it through the middle instead.
And there was a 20 yard hole in the middle of the pitch in the second half. Of which Maher stood still in. Wasn’t just him though nobody sought to exploit the gaping hole of space. Which was my main frustration today, tactics or not someone on the pitch has gotta see that gap.
First defeat of the season and from afar we looked to be very unlucky , the march to 83 and third place is still on . Even third place teams lose 1 in 4 , so we’ve still got this.
22 Wins
11 Draws
10 Defeats to go
At least tonight we’re not Vale.
Believe
As is the case for the other 23 clubs in the league.
We don’t have anything until we have it.
Just saw the @yellowribbonpod share a stat that the ball was only in play for 44 minutes.
We were talking about this at half time today. Someone said “still 45 minutes to go” and I said that the weakness of the ref and their time wasting in terms of actual play it would be more like 25 minutes. 25 minutes to go at half time really adds the urgency that Sadler didn’t show today.
I still think the game should be 35 minutes each way but with a big clock in the stadium controlled by a time keeper who stops it every time the ball is dead.
Another initiative which lasted for a few weeks. First few games last season were lasting 110 minutes or so. Today we had 4 minutes of added time in the second half.
Not complaining about their time wasting though, as we do the same when it suits.
It’s become part of the game.
Everyone does it. As you say, last seasons initiative lasted about a month.
Ultimately it’s theft though. I paid £67 for tickets today to see 44 minutes of football.
That’s shit.
Wow. You must have been watching a different game to the one I watched on the telly. I reckon I saw about 12 minutes of football😃
Even less in the Locker
Being serious, the way the game was reffed, had we scored the penalty it would have suited us down to the ground with the stop start nature of the game. Because they got in front it made it really difficult to get any momentum going, cos the game was just stopped needlessly so often.
If it had gone in, Tranmere would have been like us under Flynn. Set up to not to conceed, but ruining the tactic by giving a goal away early.
Even more baffling that he added just 4 minutes on at the end.
There were 33 fouls made in the game, a good 20 of those must have been in the second half where they took an absolute age to get it back in play every single time.
Every throw in they took they waited for a ball boy to slowly walk over to it, even when the ball went out of play a good 50 yards away in the stand from where the ball went out they waited for the same ball to come back instead of using the multi ball system.
And i don’t want to start on Cameron Norman, i don’t think i despise a person more than him.
Can’t really go very negative this early in the season. Especially as we did enough to get something from the game.
If this becomes a feature of away days = big problem.
But again, good few weeks to settle down before evaluating if Sadler can get the best out of this capable squad
