One of the last ’ helpers ’ here from that leech Bonsers reign, no longer on the board, but still has some capacity at the club doesn’t he? Would like him gone while Trivela are clearing out the dead wood.
Just a cobweb hanging from the ceiling will eventually fall to the ground .
The worst of the trio, alongside JWB and BB, IMHO.
His attitude to fans in later years, after being a real part of SWAG, was very disappointing. Unforgivable.
That is what I find so bad. Poacher turned game-keeper on steroids!
But what has Ben Boycott done that you rate him so lowly plus who was IMHO, don’t recognise their initials lol (just having a bit of light-hearted fun mel58
)
BB = Barrie Blower (for the younger fans)
Bonser’s consigliere. ( If you’ve watched the Godfather, you’ll understand.) Whalley not Blower BTW.
Soz, hadn’t even thought of that unfortunate confluence.
Nice turn of phrase!
Not much likeable about Jeff the businessman.
But Jeff the chairman of Walsall FC steering football - deserves credit. The retention and use of Paul Taylor.
He got a few appointments wrong - Merse. But his timing and bloody mindedness Graydon gone for Lee. Bringing in Ray who and DD. Masterstrokes.
JB pisses all over Pomlett and Trivella for this.
If only he didn’t taint his legacy with the freehold malarkey and leaving us where he found us skint in D4. He’d have that statue Roy wanted.
Footnote. The Bonser era on the pitch will likley never be matched. The journey was immense and dramatic and enjoyable but we ended up back in square one.
Thank you.
I agree entirely about the highlights of the football achievements and us managing to sustain our status as a third tier club for the majority of JWB’s tenure but I think the freehold situation was more than a little malarkey.
The fact he is so despised by so many, despite the successes you rightly list, echoes my perspective on his era in charge.
I’d also question if he would have got involved if he would have had to pay 400,000 pa rent to a landlord.
It always baffles me that the decision was taken to move to Bescot and build a stadium on land not owned by Walsall fc. How was this ever acting with care and diligence? Was it a group decision or just Bonser?
I’m sure his fans will know the answer Andy
Bonser wasn’t running the show when that decision was taken. The club was practically bankrupt after the Ramsden fiasco and had little choice about selling the land which was its only asset.
At the same time he took advantage and lined his own pockets in the process. True walsall fan he’s not!!
Hated Bonser but i don’t think he would of stood for 5 seasons in this division when he was still interested.
Exactly great point
And what exactly would he have done?
Changed manager every season?
Cos that what we did.
