The weekend is over and it’s back to business at clubs around the leagues but as fans, we can’t accept what is happening to WFC….
I’m personally sickened by the collapse of our team since January and someone has to take the bull by the horns to influence a change
Does Trivela know how long we’ve waited for something positive to happen at our club?
Does MS and BS actually care what is unfolding under their management? If we fail to get promoted this season it WILL be the biggest failure in our clubs long and proud history - do you want that on your CV?
I’m fed up of our so called bigger local rivals ‘liking’ us as their nominated second team (almost in sympathy as much as anything..) so please can someone give us some hope that we won’t throw this season away with a whimper?
As a lifelong fan and early bird STH (again) - I don’t think I can even contemplate next season after the past 3 months..
No need to press the panic button mate, we take one game at a time, we have the right leaders / characters in the building, it’s just a blip, it’s not like us, take no notice of the doubters.
Of course they do. That doesn’t mean they have all the answers though.
Even yourself, you’re asking someone to “sort this out NOW” - but the big question is how? They can’t just force the team to win. I’m not sure anybody knows what the best course of action is at the moment…
Yep, way too late to effect any change whatsoever now, just got hope we fluke a win or 3, only people who can influence that are Sadler and the players at this point.
Changes should have been made back in March, at the very least there should have been massive emphasis on drilling the defence within an inch of their lives to keep clean sheets, grab a 1-0 here and there, when we’re conceding 2 a game it’s an uphill battle.
Since mid-January we’ve been the worst performing team in the division; we’ve won two games in 18, thrown away point after point after point, and we’ve gone from having one of the best defences in the division to one of the worst.
From the point we had that 12 point lead over 2nd place, all the team had to do was perform like an average league two side for the remainder of the season and we’d have been promoted by now.
The level of mismanagement over the last few months has been unbelievable - what we have thrown away - and let’s face it the opportunity has gone now - is simply inexcusable. Fans who have turned out in numbers across the length and breadth of the country have been let down by poor decision making, mystifying squad selection, a wasted transfer window and some totally amateurish player management.
Given the position we were in, our current predicament is simply not acceptable.
So the alternative is they simply sit on their hands, do nothing and watch our season decline into failure…..
I know changing manager is risky and not even sure it will make a difference as the players look shot but surely the professional thing to do is look for solutions (as it would be in any organisation…)
Of course it’s the professional thing to do, yeah. I’m sure they are looking at solutions (but not one that involves changing the manager).
It’s a difficult situation. Mat Sadler got us to an unbelievable position by early January. He’s also overseen what could be the biggest collapse in Walsall history. He clearly got a lot right in the first half of the season, and now he seems devoid of ideas and making bizarre changes like dropping Simkin and leaving Williams out.
It can be looked at two ways - he’s a manager that can achieve incredible success at his best, and relegation form at his worst. Do you sack a manager when he’s a big reason why we’re in the top 3 in the first place? I don’t know the answer to that, but I think Trivela would be very reluctant to do so, especially with the long contract he’s now on.
There must be a lot going on behind the scenes to explain all this - and I’m sure Trivela are asking questions about what’s going on. There’s no way they’re sitting idly by and just hoping things pick up. Do any of them know how to turn this around though? It doesn’t seem like it right now…
I was one of those 600 plus supporters at Barrow on Saturday and after sitting through it everyone associated with the club must have felt embarrassed by what had just played out.
It was humiliating watching professional football players constantly second best in every department, we hardly won anything in the air although it didn’t stop us continuing to lump it up the pitch. A team that couldn’t win the second ball and when we did have the ball we kept giving it away.
We looked dejected and afraid to change what clearly wasn’t working (something that’s been evident for weeks).
Mat Sadler is never going to publicly call the players out and neither should he. I think his post match comments were probably as close as he will ever get to public criticism.
All of us care deeply about our club and I’m sure no single person walks in on a Monday morning thinking sod it I couldn’t care less but surely as much as it hurts right now can’t we all just stick together for the final 4 games because a divided army is a defeated one. I don’t have the answers to the problems we face and haven’t the slightest idea what goes on behind the scenes but I’m quietly confident that those at the club are well aware of the situation we are in and are equally concerned. We’ve travelled this far together so let’s just get stick together and get the job done.
But carrying on as we are is not going to get the job done. We’ve been saying that for the past three months, and nothing has changed - we’ve thrown away every break we’ve been given and unless something changes we can all see what’s going to happen.
We have absolutely no choice but to go this Friday and get behind them all.Whats done is done and it hurts like hell but it can’t be changed. What can be changed are the results over these last few games and it’s surprising what a win can do to moral. It doesn’t even have to be pretty, just in off someone’s backside will do at this stage. There are plenty of twists and turns still to come.
The annoying thing is during this awful period , where has ben boycott been.they started off by saying we would have constant updates on the club, but since the poor run everything is totally quite.
I don’t disagree at all with you - in fairness I didn’t specifically say get rid of the manager.. I said find solutions and that could be a mix of things to try to change things up…
What I was implying more than anything was to try things to find improvements rather than simply fail (which is the trajectory we’re on right now) - much of this will admittedly fall into MS management territory but has he got the know how to make positive changes because the ones he made on Saturday for example seemed to make us worse (not better…)
I don’t know the answer to our problems but we can’t carry on with his favourites rather than players who may, just be capable to help us win a game (or 2….)
Nice one coop63. Exactly my thoughts. Having a season ticket in league 2, next year, fills me with dread. Even if we are doing well I know we will cock it up at some point. It only used to be games that we threw away in the last few breaths. Now we have graduated to whole sodding seasons.
Me and Jnr regretting shelling out £700 a few weeks ago.
The only crumb of hope would be determined recruitment during the summer. Solid, proven professionals. Anything similar to past three years and it will be groundhog sèason yet again…or even worse after the fiasco of this season.
Yep, agreed. Something has to change, but admittedly I don’t know what it is. Perhaps Chang, Hall, Lipusic, Wheatley, Johnson, Asiimwe, Williams etc are the answer. As you say, we can’t just keep doing the same things over and over again and expecting a different result.
