W 1-0 vs Bristol City (A) - League Cup Round 1 - Thu 6th August, 7.45pm

Match thread for the League Cup 1st Round tie at Ashton Gate.

Preview to follow…

Very annoyed this is on a Friday.

Bristol probably my favourite city in the U.K and never been to Ashton Gate so was going to get a cheap train or coach ticket and go to this.

Is the Rugby on there on the Saturday?

Make a weekend of it?

Moved to the Friday for TV.

Used to work in Bristol the balloon festival is the same day, will be busy to say the least

Are there any pubs that serve food anywhere near? First time there, to knock off another ground.

Centre is 20 minutes or so walk away.

Nearest high street is Bedminster which has a McDonalds in the Asda and a few pubs dotted along the high street. Five minute walk from there.

We still wont have a full squad for this match.. club just seem willing to lose the first couple of months

The area around Ashton Gate is a bit of a cack hole. Some good metal venues in town though. My lad played at The Gryphon a few times which sells good beers.

The Ostrich is excellent. Right on the harbourside too.

Temple Meads used to feature on crimewatch quite a lot

Could always have a photo taken outside Nelson Mandela house.

Never watched a gig down there either. A mate years back lived on the Gloucester road for a few months so made my excuses to get down when I could as that half a mile is students mecca, Cat and Wheel right by Montpelier station was his local which I think would’ve had some bands in.

Actually thinking about it again up the hill by the university there is a really good sports bar next to one of the spoons. Loads of pool tables and TVs. 20 minutes walk from Ashton Gate but it is downhill walk:

Allstars Sports Bars

If you get there early enough, the Bag O’Nails pub is worth a visit. About 1.5 miles walk from the ground, it has a good selection of reasonably priced beer, and the “jukebox” is a record player with a selection of vinyl that customers can choose from themselves.

It is also a “cat pub” with around 20 of the furry little blighters calling the bar home. Would have been heaven for @Belgiansaddler - although they might be a little too tame for his liking. :cat_with_wry_smile:

No mention of tickets yet for this which is surprising.

How many will we be taking to Bristol? I am guessing on an away audience around a thousand. Fantastic support for a Friday night in the school holidays.

Also at the harbour is The Cottage Inn. It’s about a 20 minute walk to Ashton Gate. It’s a Butcombe pub so the beer’s not bad at all.

Correct. The Ostrich is also a Butcombe boozer.
