W 1-0 vs Salford City (H) – Sat 23rd Aug, 12:30pm (League Two)

The lack of striking options and being a early kick off it feels to me like this has got all the hallmarks of a 2-0 to Salford.

I’d be very happy if we could manage to scrape a Point with the current options we have against a Salford team that is well in form currently.

Presumably Harper comes in for Hancock
If we don’t get a striker today then I’d like to see Hollman alongside Pressley to see if he can run onto the flick ons as he had a few decent goals in his highlights.

:joy: don’t go that far!

Pretty sure we’ve been doing this, even while Flynn was here?

I imagine it will be elvis and uncle to start with jamma replacing elvis round the 70 minute mark.
That ought to be enough to send shivers down the Ammies spine :grimacing:

Yes, Absolutely. I know Walsall dont have high possession and there are lots of complaints about giving the ball away too easily. But I definitely think how we play is about gaining territory and putting the opposition on the back foot.

As always subjective views about how entertaining and effective this is are valid.

But my point is we aren’t giving away the ball through poor technique (although they did a pretty good job of convincing me otherwise at times against Barnet ).

Think this will be loss.

Salford should’ve won here last season before DJ did his dramatic rescue act (shows what a moronic decision it was not to have him on the bench for Wembley and the other run in games).

It will probably be Adomah starting but wouldn’t shock me if Gordon comes back for a random start. The reality is it is slim pickings upfront already which is completely unacceptable.

Personally I’d give Hollmann a start. He’s been in the country a month now and had sub cameos so I’d be getting him in from the off to see if he can offer anything different in the midfield area.

Hopefully his bench spot will then be taken by RAM but this is Sadler we’re talking about so will probably be Weir or Browne instead.

Correct, it’s not poor technique, I’d say we have a very good technique at giving the ball away, it’s just the result poor tactics/instructions

Not to mention I could probably pick out a few from Tuesday night, (specifically Warrington) which were examples of us giving the ball away in a fashion you could certainly describe as technically poor. And possibly in even stronger terms.

Graham Taylor had England doing this in the early ‘90s. David Platt would deliberately kick the ball out of play, to give the opposition a throw-in near the corner flag. The idea was to pen the opposition in from the resultant throw-in and win back possession in an advanced area. I’m surprised that Gillingham haven’t started doing this - they are the new anti-football team in League 2 this season. Their win against Chesterfield was brutal, but gave us the exact blueprint how to beat them on 6th September!!

Didn’t we have Thomas Asante on trial one season aswell?

I think a few of our players are “technically poor”! Warrington doesn’t look a good signing, I think Finnigan will be better. That’s why I would try Evan Weir in midfield: he is good on the ball.

i agree i think weir could do a decent job in midfield as an option

If we have to resort to playing CBs in midfield again we should probably just pack it all in as a club

unlike mcentee i think weir is more suited to play in midfield

Yes, Weir can pass a ball, McEntee can’t. I think CDM could be Weir’s best position - I’m surprised he hasn’t been tried there!

Think if we can keep them down to scoring 3 it will be a great result

Well, you have a higher opinion of Evan Weir on the ball than I do :+1:

I always try to be positive! :joy: It’s interesting that Taylor Allen isn’t exactly pulling up any trees at Wycombe: horses for courses - Allen can only really play as a left-sided centre-back in a three.
