Are we to expect the usual Oktoberfest specialities such as:
- Super frothy decent beer served in Mabkrug (forgive the lack of accuracy of German letters)
- ‘Ample’ serving wenches
- Large spicy sausages with sauerkraut and mustard
- All paid for at German prices

In your dreams A few years ago I spent a week on holiday in Thuringia and developed the habit of enjoying a midday snack of Rostbratwurst washed down with a beer. Said sausage in bread with mustard was typically about 1.40 Euros. When I got back home and back to work in Sheffield there was a German street market in the city centre. I was delighted to see a stall selling Thuringian Rostbratwursts, so I thought I would re-live my hols and purchase one to remind me. Then I saw the price - £5. I decided to give it a miss.

Feels like we’ve missed yet another wave of potential enthusiasm around coming to watch Walsall.
This will be Trivela’s first one and they are probably scratching their heads. It’s probably my tenth ( one every five years feels about right) and the clubs 30th since formation. We’ve been doing it since 1888.
The pattern the same. The football team manages to galvanise a few thousand extra supporters to come and regularly watch it. Could be a cup run, a ground move, a promising league campaign, new ownership, a Wembley trip, an Old Trafford trip etc etc. Crowds up, revenue up and a feel good factor. Then the suits blow it. They sell Scott Dann, they don’t sack Matt Sadler, they do zero follow up after 30,000 go to Wembley, the appoint Jimmy Mullen, the cock up another January window, they mis-read the sector etc etc and so we lose those extra fans and we return to a “on our gates…. “ Narrative to manage our expectations.
Doesn’t need to have been like that. You look at how Lincoln rode a cup run bounce. You look at how others rode a ground move bounce, change of ownership bounce etc.

Doesn’t help being on sky also an early kick off. It’s also impacted the away end sales they brought 2k last season its looking like that figure will be down about 600
The gate this Saturday will be affected by the time and more importantly the fact it is on TV. I know a number of folk who won’t be coming because of that. I just hope the TV deal gives us sufficient financial compensation.
I may not be there myself as I might be in a bowls competition at my club but I have to qualify for that tonight!

Time, price, TV, weather……why do people make excuses for poor crowds. The club’s lack of ambition, coupled with a lack of trust, will always stunt any growth.
The club are lucky they have a hardcore of 4/5k. Trivela blew any chance of regular ‘big’ crowds. Ben Sadler couldn’t give the tickets away. 10k plonker!!
