Looks like we might just get away with it…the covers protect up to -5 I think. The lowest forecast is -3 over the next 2 nights. Friday night it is forecast to be 0 degrees and Saturday temperatures rise.
I will say though the heating system is broken here, so it’s freezing inside The Albert McPherson Lounge
I think the match will be ok, that end of the ground gets very limited sunlight in winter so is always frozen the longest, takes longest to dry out, where the grass is most threadbare etc, but with Friday warmer and saturday warmer still with some light rain hopefully be ok.
I think those covers are good to -5 but not for sustained periods of several days. As trivela are investing in the infrastructure of the club I wouldnt be surprised to see pitch protection and technology for pitch care being upgraded. Seems like that might already be the case as I havent seen those light/heaters before.
Ghost of Ken Wheldon saving a few pennies
Cold keeps you alert and on your toes agb lol
To be fair, there can’t be many clubs who haven’t been in the Premier and got all the underground heating etc that have a better record of getting games on than Walsall. We don’t seem to lose many unless it is really extreme conditions.
thats true mate, I reckon we’ll be ok saturday. I think the standard required for getting these games on is increasing though so makes it more and more difficult to get them on without infrastructure in place
Heaters?? When did we fork out for them? Have the braziers gone?
If it gets really cold, we’ll turn them on.
Colin went years ago mate, didn’t think he had any other brothers playing for us.
Is the groundsman going to push those 2 heaters forward a couple of feet every half hour or so to try and warm more than just the goal line …
Perhaps
agb863 could do that pop down from his conference keep him warm as well .
Is Omelette not available to spout some hot air and warm the place up? If he says “watch out Villa, watch out Albion” a few times you should be nice and toasty.
seen as we now have 4/5 available strikers, all of good quality. Who would everyone start up front Saturday?
For me, Faal & either Gordon / DJ
Its a good question. Last few games its been DJ up top with DJT behind him. Id start Faal up top with DJT behind him and depending on the game state make subs with DJ up top with Gordon behind him at some point.
I dont think DJ & Faal would work that well as from what Ive seen occupy the same space, but thats only from a few highlights of Faal so could be wrong.
Why not Faal and Gordon starting?
Two reasons
1)They are both ‘new’ so perhaps less familiar with team mates and tactics.
2)Think DJT deserves to start for scoring in last 2 league games
But having said that I wouldnt mind if they did both start.
Fall and Gordon upfront. The DJs to be options off the bench.
Like the idea of the first two being a right handful for 60 minutes.
Faal and Gordon for me
But will probably be Gordon and DJT
