W 2-1 vs Barnet (A) – Sat 16th Aug, 3.00pm (League Two)

He’s actually got more minutes than Farq even if you count in Welsh football and take out his U18 minutes. Madness.

Absolutely right.

If we aren’t so lucky with injuries, we could be in for a real struggle.

I’ll be very disappointed if this is what we go with.

Barnet have posted a video of one of their players interviewed about how much of a step up it is to the EFL. I find it an odd interview perhaps too honest, admitting he’s ,much physically weaker than the players he came up against when they played Fleetwood.

We have a chance then with our Duracell-Bunny football. Let’s just run them into the ground, don’t bother about trying to keep the ball. Perhaps we need Mike Reid as one of our coaches: “Run around now”!! (edit - I know, he’s dead!)

Need a win tomorrow to put a marker down, need to put it straight on Barnet from the off, 3-0 to the Saddlers, get last Saturday’s loss out the system.

It isn’t that astounding. They have both had a very similar number of appearances and Okagbue never seemed to be subbed. I don’t see the minutes played has much to do with injuries. The fact that they have played a similar number of games with a large age difference might do.

That is just as astounding. Farqhurson is 7 years older than him. You just explained why it is astounding :joy:

Farq made his EFL debut at 24 and Okagbue, with us in fact, at 19. The former made 81 non-league appearances before his debut but Big Dave made just ten.

I included his Welsh league appearances and Okagbue still has more minutes :+1:

Still doesn’t make it not astounding that an “experienced” 28 year old defender has been fit enough to play less minutes than a 21 year old one.

That is interesting but I cannot see how it refers to injuries unless he was picking up minor injures every game. It seems to me to say he was subbed a lot, either on or off.

Well I the rationale for keeping Farq is his experience and I was pointing out that he isn’t really that experienced.

I’d seen no real crying about losing the experience of Okagbue in defence when we sold him.

He’s got comparable experience to a young player and a terrible injury record.

He might be a good player - I personally think that he is - but disrupting a defence is never good so I don’t think he’s worth the risk once you realise that he isn’t that experienced.

Because if Priestly hadn’t been injured for a good chunk of the season before he joined us, most of the season he did join us and virtually all of last season, that probably wouldn’t be the case? I’d have thought that was pretty self explanatory really.

Is that better? :joy:

In fact, he must have played a lot in the Welsh League because he was the League’s YP of the Year. Where are you getting the numbers from?

I see what you’re saying now.

I would imagine he’s subbed due to the injury risk, having to manage his minutes to avoid him ever being on the pitch when fatigued.

I’d argue that’s even worse really, having little choice but to waste a pre-planned sub on him because he’s such a bad injury risk.

I have to admit I don’t know his injury record other than at Walsall (which isn’t great at all) but wasn’t there Newport fans saying “good player if you can keep him fit” when he joined?

We have had a lot of players on the treatment table over recent years with long term injuries. You aren’t helping yourselves when you sign players with a history of being constantly injured.

It’s a bit of a gamble to say the least.

The resigning off the Priest was at best an odd decision and at worst a catastrophic one. I am still perplexed how Captain Fantastic DD was released and the Priest retained. His innury record means he is a liability when on the outch and it necessitates an extra defender in the group to compensate for how many games he is lilely to miss which dilutes the quality we can attract when the budget has to be spread over more players.
