W 2-1 vs Mansfield Town (H) - League Two - Sat 17th Feb, 3pm

I thought we more than matched the in form free scoring Mansfield but i did think that they had more quality in the final third and this showed by the number of clear cut chances they had.

We just need to show more consistency in our performances and im sure the points will come. When we are good we are very good but we can be equally as poor.

Regarding player performances…

Smith - pulled of some great saves to keep us in the game got a couple of errors in him but overall a good keeper at this level.

Gordon - following a run of poor performances showed today glimpses of why he earned a new contract. Looks like hes struggling with fitness played alot of games maybe just in need of a rest.

Allen - played well in an unfamiliar postion i would give him a run at LWB to allow Gordon to have a rest.

Dave - much improved from his last game played a pivotal role in the middle of the back 3.

Adegboyega - chucked in at the deep end excellent cameo and got the winner.

Knowles - had a couple of frustrating moments but overall had a good game

Comley - i thought Comley was below par today many a times he looked to play backwards instead of driving forward with the ball lost possession quite a few times also.

Hutchinson - not his best game but still managed to bag himself two assists.

Earing - dictated play today a true midfield maestro performance looking forward to him getting fully fit.

Gordon - Worked hard

Matt - MOTM protected the ball and brought others into play and grabbed himself a goal great captains performance

Like Allen always have .a very versatile player alway good to have someone like him .if there’s such a thing as a squad player he’s your man .he’s no kid and will push others .very useful acquisition and proved that today .

Enjoyed that! Like others have said we rode our luck at times but it’s about time we had some good luck for a change! The goal that never was… was  by about half a yard

Whole team played well especially in second half and the subs even had an impact. Special mention for Taylor Allen today who I haven’t particularly rated but thought he played really well today and he is very useful at corners and other set pieces.

After all their moaning about 2000 tickets not being enough they bring 1600 and they might as well not have been there for all the noise they didn’t make  Vale in the relegation zone, Latics beat Shrewsbury (so my train home from Crewe was full of happy p!55ed Wigan fans and slightly less happy Sunderland fans). so all in all a good day. Please don’t waste this result on Tuesday :face_with_monocle: :see_no_evil:

It was a great win and I said in the week I think Jamile Matt should be captain and because Donvervon was injured he was. Even if Daniels comes back I’d still make Matt captain. He’s a credit to the club.

Okagbue did well but got to be said he wS left for dead for the goal. Just didn’t close the player down. Only other negative Stirk!!!. Gave the ball away at least 3 times under no pressure. Could have been very costly. Seems totally off the pace

UTS

Who stirk who came on at the 90th minute?

It really is . If I was a Mansfield fan , I’d have total belief in him .

Thought smith was excellent today but he does seem to have Lady Luck on his side at times.
He did ok with crosses today mostly. But if he can improve that side of his game significantly he will be a top keeper at this level and the levels above .

Beat Morecambe and Harrogate and it is actually theoretically possibly that we could be 7th this time next week.

Weird to think that as we lie in 16th

Tight league this year currently 9 points between 7th>19th

Could also be 19th. Sadler Out.

That’s right, right?

Very knowledgeable is clough and seems to know exactly what he is talking about. That interviewer was exactly what we need as well fired off loads of interesting questions in a short space of time without being intrusive.

Chalk and cheese compared to our interviews which border on the unbearable , both from manager and interviewer

Matt as captain - anybody else notice that before kick off he went to every player and gave them a quick word of encouragement.

I don’t have an issue or anything against (obviously) pushing for the top 7 IF Sadler shows he is learning and changes the way we play - particularly when the onus is on us to take the game to teams.

It seems we sort of push on against ‘better’ teams - yet we seem to get dragged down to more negative styles against teams in mid table and below.

I think that’s a major learning point for Sadler - and Tuesday is a great example. We need to take the game to Morecambe.

Why, anyone, wouldn’t be happy about us improving is beyond me. Why wouldn’t we be happy? :joy:

Second, let’s just temper ourselves… it’s 1 win. My issue all season has been the really inconsistent form. We’ve been in this position several times all season.

I just really really hope we break with the classic Walsall - and we get the job in the next two weeks. Who wouldn’t ?

We have finally got the player we all wanted . Need to keep him fit , might be a huge asset for next season , which is probably his last . Has the potential to be Rambo esque

If anything it’s infuriating - we can see this squad is capable. Even with a little consistency and discipline, we’d be top 10.

Instead, we regularly fold or turn out dull, negative performances.

I’m afraid despite todays great win, I still view this season as a massive waste of a decent squad which really should’ve challenged for promotion

Would review the manger’s position at the end of the season for me depending on how we finish performance wise and consistency.

Yep I thought the same no excuses no gripes pitch Ref told it like it was .measured criticism of his own team .Sadler could do well to watch that and learn .a masterclass in after match interview .don’t think many Mansfield fans will be giving him flak after that summing up .

I did too, but I was pleasantly surprised.
