First time I’ve seen us this year. Daniels was outstanding. Williams very promising. Foulkes too. Hutchinson excellent second half. DJ is soooo reliable in front of goal. Draper a handful. Draper looked knackered, DJ off surprised me, but Sadler got it right to be fair. They’re a good side and will be there or thereabouts. Is Wootton still there? I thought they missed his presence up top. Too early to make judgements really. As some have said , could have been one of the good Flynn performances from last year. Most games will be tight I think. Fine margins. I’m hopeful!
Couldn’t go but great win. Loving it. Certainly won’t be reading your monotonus borefest of long posts lecturing people and telling them off about tactics etc etc. And I haven’t read any. But that’s all you ever post so no reason to. UTS
You must be watching a different game. He was lost.
That doesn’t mean he didn’t work hard or anything - he did. But he’s not a midfielder.
Felt the whole midfield struggled first half. Hutch was peripheral, Stirk hit quite a few stray passes and McEntee didn’t seem to know exactly where he should be. Very promising that MS got them in at half time and seemed to straighten them out, because the second half was much better.
Agree regarding McEntee, though.
Touch over 6000
Wooton injured pre season and out for the season. Big loss for them.
Wootton is out for 2 months there fans are moaning they are playing like he’s in the team and its not working .
Cracking win. Always nice to beat them as an old workmate is a fan of theirs.
I can see DJ ending up a bit of an icon at this football club and mentioned in the same Walsall fan’s conversations as some of the greats we’ve spoken about at this club. What’s that now 17 goals in 33 games? and I know it’s early days and anything can happen but he ain’t exactly started off too shabby has he.Also his strike partner yesterday Draper had a fantastic game and if that’s him not fully fit yet we’ve loaned one heck of a player I can see him leaving a similar mark to what George Miller did after he went back.
This is what concerns me for Tuesday. Wrexham are incredibly strong in that area.
Agree, think we need to revisit midfield situation although I think Stirk and Oisin were very good at times yesterday
I actually think the other part of his game has improved. Hes hardly had much pre season like last year due to fatherhood. With better decision making at Morecambe and yesterday he wouldve had more goals. Draper will be a great foil him
To be fair he laid on the second goal with a powerful burst but I agree that we could do with a more experienced player in that role.
I also think the more games he plays in that position he will get a lot better this is a new role for him to play and I think he as done well and looks like he is enjoying it and he and stirk are still learning to play with each other I think they will get better the longer they stay together
Re the possible penalty for them.
Having rewatched it a couple of times:
- It was Powell
- He overran the ball
- Evans got a hand on the ball (both sets of commentary on iFollow agree on that)
- He went down very theatrically (more like a swallow dive than a trip)
- The ref wasn’t too far away or unsighted
- None of the other Stockport players appealed
- The incident hasn’t even been deemed worthy of inclusion in the brief or extended highlights
- It was Powell
He was lucky not to get booked for diving. From where I sat it didn’t look like Evans touched him!
Incidentally I thought the referee was good yesterday. I think he is new on the list.
Agree with a lot of what has been said above. My twopennth:
We won, largely because of our defensive performance, evidenced by the stats, which I thought were representative… Daniels was tremendous and my MoM. Evans not far behind. They put no end of crosses in , and even though he didn’t have to make any top drawers saves, he commanded his area all afternoon and caught everything thrown at him (still haven’t seen a replay of the penalty incident).
We had two attempts on target and scored from them both. Two excellent team goals and good finishes.
Stockport were very good. On yesterdays evidence, I’d say that any team finishing above them will be promoted.
The additional time again did my head in. I don’t want a football match to last 2 hours, and more importantly have no idea why the ref is adding over 20% of the half as additional time. Probably needs a mindset change as well, as trying to run the clock down (we had a corner in the 90th minute which we played short) with potentially 15 minutes left just hands the momentum over to the other team
Same with the increase in cards. Something needed doing but it’s gone too far the other way. Hope it settles down.
Looked like Evans caught him from where we are sat but if the ref thought he dived he should have booked him.
Ref was ok but like all at this level also made some really poor decisions.
I thought that Evo tipped the ball and then caught Powell’s leg. Neither a pen nor a dive.
