W 2-1 vs Stockport County (H) - League Two, Sat 12th August, 3:00pm

All about angles from where I was sat Evo clearly caught Powell, but I didn’t see the touch on the ball. I thought clear penalty but according to one report the Stockport manager was told by the fourth official Evo touched it. However he said he had the same view and thought Evo didn’t touch it and was a poor decision.
I will go with the ref this time

Agree about the injury time and even more so the bookings.

Football needs less bookings not more if you ask me. Every foul is a potential card nowadays, if you do two minor fouls in the space of 15 mins it is a guaranteed card. Slight bit of frustration shown now, yellow card. It changes the game because certain players are restricted how they can play once they are booked. Thank f*** we don’t still have Labadie! A far cry from when I started going to football where you weren’t even booked for a minor assault. No one wants that but a bit of common sense. We want the best players playing their best game every week, not suspended.

The over time is madness. So the players are expected to play an extra 15-20 mins most games than they are used to? Clamp down on time wasting. Despite what I just said about bookings, persistent time wasting should be dealt with in that way.

Daniels and DJ are two players who we couldn’t be without for long. Both of them top class at what they do.

There is contact after Evans touches the ball but Powell makes a right meal of it.

The full replay (it’s free) is on the iFollow Video Archive section of the OS. The incident is around 18:20 on the match clock, 1:47:10 on the playback.

We’d have dropped 2 points possibly 3 last season going into 10 minutes added time, immense effort from the lads. Yeah they had 2/3 of the possession but it counts for nothing if they don’t do anything with it. Fantastic team effort, Sadler seems to have got a good togetherness in the squad!

Looked a stonewall from where we was but you only get to see it once and if Evans made contact with the ball then obviously not a pen. The reaction of their players suggests it wasn’t one to be fair.

From a practical point of view (as you will appreciate), midweek games are going to finish at 10 0’clock or later, which on a school night is likely to discourage people with kids from attending, particularly as it can be watched on ifollow.
I know I’m an old fooker, but I can remember when Tuesday games used to be over at ten past nine.

I am old enough to remember 7.30 kick offs :grinning:

To be fair the late kick off time won’t affect me taking the kids, they don’t really go to bed early and I would make an exception on match nights anyway, as my Dad with me. I appreciate that some people have tighter routines and younger kids though. There also some Saddlers that travel a fair distance to come and watch Walsall, who will have work early the next day. Football isn’t about fans anymore though.

To me, it is a massive change to the game. You hear all this talk of players playing too many games etc, now they want them to play a game that lasts 100 minutes plus. I dunno who comes up with some of the nonsense, the game is simple really no need for big changes all of the time.

A midweek cup replay with extra time and penalties and you’ll be coming home with the milkman (if they still existed).

We’ll have to agree to disagree. But if ur a man of stats… 2nd highest performer in the game - 7.4 behind hutch at 7.7; 1 assist; duels won 10 lost 6; aerial duels won 7 lost 2.

But only made 50% accurate passes and lost possession 14 times. Still learning the position but did a good job yesterday.

You get a brilliant view of the game right at the top in the upper. Evans definitely clipped him and he may have got around otherwise .His handling was quite superb. Unless players leatn quicker then suspensions will play a big part. Funny how our worst culprit Evo hasn’t been booked for it.

It was after he went past him I think where he clips Powell

First impression was absolute stone wall penalty and I’m not sure I’ve changed my mind on it since.

7:30 kick offs. Done for 9:10 or 9:15 latest (half times were only ten minutes). I get why the traffic meant that kick offs were put back but with all this added time it means late nights - especially for young fans and us long distance ones.

For me, the game should be 30 minutes each way but those 30 minutes are “ball in play” time. In professional football an independent time keeper simply stopping and restarting the clock. So no added time just simply the game ends at 60 minutes. The fans win here because the ball was only in play an average of 55 minutes last year so we get more football. It is transparent so nobody is going “where’s he got the time from?” and adds certainty.

I know some would say “back in the day we had 90 minutes and time wasting/game management wasn’t really a thing”. The game is now a lot quicker and the back pass rule means we don’t have unofficial breathers whilst a back pass from the opposite half is picked up by the keeper and taken for a walk around his box for a couple of minutes.

Its been introduced because of abuse and assaults of officials further down the football pyramid.

They are recognising that these guys are heroes of young impressionable people and are trying to encourage them to lead by example. What was allowed to go on had to end, and there’s no easy way of doing it. We have to hope players learn quickly and then moderate their behaviour - and then the time added on will be reduced.

The difference between football and other sports with officials is stunning. In rugby players address the officials as sir.

Very good result, some impressive performances throughout the team. Impressed with Draper, but slight tinge of sadness he’s a loan player…he’s quite a prospect.

Brilliantly weighted pass from Draper for Johnson’s goal.

I want to put in a word for Gordon, who has barely been mentioned and yet I thought he had a good game and did some great defensive work towards the end.

For the first 15 minutes, Foulkes and Williams looked as if they were going to be roasted by Barry and the left back but they knuckled down. If they continue to develop, they will be real assets, both in terms of play and transfer value.
