We had 2 strikers in the box, you can’t defend him not looking up and picking 1 out. Johnson reaction said it all. After that he should have been dragged off
On the flip side of that, in the first half in particular he had the ball in some decent areas and was looking for a forward pass, no movement at all, no one came towards him or made any kind of run.
I’m not sure why Hutchinson is being singled out for the Morecambe game, other than DJ who did his job well, I don’t think anyone else came out with much credit.
I don’t disagree. My point is he was no worse than most others and yet his performance has been far more scrutinized and more harshly criticized. It wasn’t for the lack of trying from where I could see. Just an off day in terms of those moments we rely on to change games…but the general play was pretty much the same as anyone else.
Exactly this.
No one is saying he played well. But he tried to get us going and tried to get on the ball and move it. He was in the top 4 players from both sides for passes made and completed - although I understand and agree that’s not a game changing stat and most passes weren’t threatening…I’m just saying he kept trying to get us going.
Interesting stat. I wouldn’t have guessed that.
He reminded me a bit of some of the games Dobson had for us. I was a big fan of Dobbo, but there were some games where the harder he tried to make something happen the worse he looked. He never tried to hide though and neither did Hutchinson to his credit. A lot of players disappear when things are going like that and don’t want the ball.
Yeah he should do what Liam Bennet used to do and chuck it in the box no matter what and get….no joy from that either!
I agree with you…It wasn’t the best moment of the game from him or anyone else I agree….but it looked to me that it’s a pass they have worked on with a midfielder arriving to strike it and it wasn’t read or executed well by him or the arriving midfielder!!
Yeah and before I get pelters for useless stats……I agree!!! It’s not the most telling of stats but it does show he kept wanting the ball and kept passing it to other Walsall players more than most…Hussey was top by the way…
Think we could beat stockport but if we go to defensive then were beat before even kicking a ball. Worries me that we are still more likely to be in a relagation battle than a promotion battle. Just hope im wrong
Never one to pull any punches eh. So here goes if Hutchinson isnt on it he is absolutely crap. Can’t pass, shoot for toffee. If he is on it he’s half decent but he’s not on it enough. Needs to be much more consistent
I appreciate hutch’s quality’s . When he’s on it and gets a bit of time on the ball they really shine through.
As mad as it sounds I think he would be a much better player get more goals and assists even this season playing in league 1 . Think he is just one of those players who is not suited to the ruff and tumble of most league 2 games to get consistency to his game . A bit like sawyers may not have had as big an impact playing in this division.
Hope he proves me completely wrong by the way .
Are you hoping cs as gone to bed you little devil so you’ve took the bait
Thing with Hutch is he will be well known after a season in the league. Everyone will know his game play, the danger he can be on the ball. He will find himself targeted a bit more and will need to adapt to this.
Agree with this
100%
Perhaps we rely too much on Hutch for his creative spark. Maybe the time is right to play both him and Tierney. Give the opposition something else to worry about.
In home games where we are going to see plenty of the ball and will need to break opposition defences down I think it is a plan worth considering but against high quality sides like Stockport this would be sheer madness.
We have a strange outlook on this country…towards most things…but particularly football in this respect.
So against the better teams we play LESS of our technically good players, concede that they will have more of the ball and as such select more players who can win it back….forgetting that those players are less likely to be able to keep it and use it for us and continue to have to try and win it back
and then wonder why we don’t beat them…
It’s happened for years with the national team and yet now we are starting to consider the option of creating and using more technically gifted players we’re starting to have more success retaining possession and winning more games….
I think the threat of suing technically gifted players if they don’t perform is a great idea. Bit too much stick for me so perhaps need to think about the carrot element but it is a start ![]()

I agree with you, but at what point does it become about us dictating how we play rather than look at how we stop the opposition.
The key battle on Saturday will be Barry vs our RWB!
Not sure who is best suited, Riley or Foulkes?
I think Riley lacks pace and got caught out of position for Morecambe’s 1st goal.
Foulkes lacks experience, but I think I’d prefer him with McEntee or Priestly at centre back.
