W 3-2 vs Accrington Stanley (H) - League Two - Sat 29th Aug, 3pm

It is good to see but it’s a bit early in the season to go for broke. I suppose he could argue that Browne could play there if necessary.

He was involved all over the pitch today. He was pressing, defending, linking up play, scoring … what more do people want!

I think Pressley fits this system perfectly. He’s the focal point of the attacks, with a number of mobile players supporting and running beyond him, This system suits him much better than under Sadler, and I think the goals/performances demonstrate that.

Not Been his biggest fan but I thought Elvis had a decent game today I’m not going to be critical of him after that I think it’s harsh.

It was a very good header as well for his goal.

Very enjoyable game.

We look like we can pass and attack but slightly open in defence.

Must keep Skura and Moore for the season.

Skura is class on and off the ball.
Moore is all action.
Sven is very effective at winning the ball.
Clarke looks dangerous, sometimes superb.
Hancock looked lively
Sodge has some nice touches..better option than Dallas
Elvis has a much improved all round game.
Smith looks a handful and has end product.
Ahui is a superb athlete and Starting to look good.. a better option than Rico.
Burke is a warrior

Grant has them playing some nice stuff, a breath of fresh air and is making Sadler look like a non-league coach.

I can listen to his post match also, so refreshing.

You have to hand it to Accrington, they were scary going forward. I doubt we’ll see another team who are so good at attacking crosses. I think Skura is the best center half I’ve seen for years. Sodje is beginning to look like he’s settling in nicely. Sprangler and Moore don’t take any prisoners. When Ahui came on it was like the difference between night and day with Browne. Dallas looked a little more lively Burke and Hancock have improved from last season. And now to the minus points. In the first half you would have needed to shoot one of the opposition to get a talking to from the ref, in the second half a funny look would have got you a yellow card. The fact that Accrington turned into 11 Vinny Jones’s in the second half didn’t do their reputation any good at all, especially number 23.

I like Skura but Connelly should have played LCB today however the coach wants him totally fit for Crewe away and Exeter and it worked!! We thoroughly deserved to win. Ok it was closer than it should have been but there is no way Accrington deserved anything from that game .

That was the first time that I’ve seen us this season and I was pretty impressed. The signs are there that this has the makings of a very good side at this level, at the very least we should be competitive.

I really like the look of Skura as a ball playing centre half, the first half in particular he was dictating the play from the back and it was crying out for a proper number 10 for him to feed the ball to in the huge space that opened up in the middle of the pitch

That’s not me knocking Sodje either. Once he got used the physical side of the game he looked a real handful and with some better decision making from others in the side he would have had a couple of opportunities to have a go at their keeper. The two lads in midfield were a real breath of fresh air, able to win the ball back and actually getting us moving forward

Pressley grew into the game too but where we’re lacking for me is someone to come on in games like today and really stretch the opposition and give us an option in behind. I imagine we’ll play better this season and lose

On the penalty shout at the end, it’s probably the only thing the ref got right in the second half. Ward took their man out no doubt, but he let them have two other shots in the middle of the goal without the keeper there. Had one of those gone in and he pulled it back for the penalty then they’d be going mad. You can’t have it both ways!

Not sure about that, to be honest. I’m obviously glad we won but they did cause us quite a few problems in the second half, especially with far post crosses, and but for a superb block they would have got a point and I don’t think anyone could have complained.

Is there an echo?

On the Browne comments, I’d be surprised if he’s not our third choice RB and 5th choice CB this season.

When you consider that we’ve got Leak, Connelly (borderline fit), Williams and Dixon injured at the back, our defence hasn’t been too bad today. Shaky, but we did the job.

We’ve also got Pattison out, so we’re carrying a good number of injuries at the moment, which is going unnoticed.

I’ll also say that there’s 100% a player in Sodje.

Once he’s up to speed, he could cause some real problems at this level. He really grew into the game today, and even in the first half he came close to scoring twice.

He’s ahead of Dallas in that number 10 position for me.

When I thought earlier about who was missing from the team today (mainly defence) I had completely forgotten about Pattison!!
When you think we had him, Dixon, Leak, Connelly missing from potentially our first 11 today, plus a few other squad players, it shows that we have a decent squad. Still another right winger and striker and that would really give us lots of options and cover.

His selfless running in the first half was great. We didn’t find him in that first 45.
Second half with a tiring opposition , he was found more readily and had a greater impact. You’re right, there’s definitely a player in there.

Accy boss sees it that way as well, felt they deserved something

Fixed that for you mate, I was doing me best David Diamanté impression!

Not seen enough of Leak yet but I think we are really missing that “nastiness / dominance” at the back. I like Skura but personally I haven’t been truly convinced by Connolly or Burke
