I know you aren’t talking to me specifically, I have been critical though. I just say things as I see them, on here. I’m not going to games constantly moaning and groaning about any player.
For what it’s worth, I think he works better with Sodje than with Dallas. You are also right, it was a fine header for the goal.
If he keeps scoring regular then that alone justifies his selection. I obviously don’t expect him to keep scoring at this rate. 1 in 3 would be a good ratio to aim for, for him.
I was sceptical about Ahui at first, but he’s put in some decent performances and definitely adds some much needed physicality to the squad. He’s also got a great turn of pace.
There’s definitely potential there and plenty of room for development. I think we need to get out of the mindset that if players don’t hit the ground running, they’re not good enough.
Grant has said himself that he wants to develop players and help them reach their full potential, so most of the players we sign aren’t going to be the finished article. The hope is that, with time and development, they continue to improve and become better players for us.
It’s not a case of having him as a boo boy. I have in the past defended players who fans have been overly critical off from Kinsella and Knowles all the way back too the Karl Hawleys and Gary Birches.
Yes this season he has started in fine form but I haven’t seen anyone using him as a “ boo boy “ merely stating that we don’t think he’s capable of it over a 46 game season and there are better options out there.
Also as paying customers and emotionally invested in the club which is what we all are then we are allowed too criticise/ question as well as praise.
Not sure I saw or heard too many boo boys yesterday everyone around me was cheering and getting behind him maybe you heard or saw different I don’t know
The way he is playing at minute like he’s got a new lease of life but can he sustain that over the season is the question
There’s things he can get better at no doubt, you are spot on that he works better with Sodje who I thought got better as the game went on before tiring.
There are just certain fans who can’t give Pressley any credit! He started well last season and then spent a fair chunk of it injured and was not the same player when he came back but looks fit and firing to me this year and long may it continue!
Personally thought Ahui did ok , I will say though they would have definitely have targeted Rico if he had been left on , their coaching team were screaming for them to get at him first half .
The team is a work in progress at the moment, but there are some excellent relationships developing amongst the players already at this early stage. Between that and their coaching over the next few weeks I can see some real potential quality developing in this team. It’s great to see how comfortable they are with retaining and using the ball already too.
Positive green shoots so far, Tuesday will be another tough game, but this is all good experience for the team to learn from.
I have been critical of Pressley - I still think he does a lot stuff that leaves a lot to be desired in some situations, and inhibits the way we play… however, he’s definitely looking leaner and been good in the box. So I hope that continues. Fair play to him.
However… I think it would be very naive of us not to get another striker in. Very naive.
As I’ve said a couple of times pre season - I am trying my best to look at these players now, without the millstone of that anti-football slop Sadler served up! It’s hard sometimes not to bias you, but I am trying my best.
I actually thought Pressley was quite poor in the first half - but was improved in the second half for sure. He got involved in a few lay offs and did the business with the header.
As well as needing another forward I’m not sure what we’d do without Sven Sprangler. He’s been immense so far. Since we came down we’ve had some real triers in that position (Kinsella and Comley come to mind) but Sprangler looks like the real deal.
Happy to crunch into a tackle - one yesterday made the ground shake - it was a proper 50/50 with neither player shirking - and he can play too. Great positioning, weight of pass and choice of pass.
I am not criticising Sprangler at all - I think he is a good player but what Kinsella and Comley were really good at was filling in when a defender went forward. I do not see this happening at the moment and we have had several examples where the opposition has simply passed the ball to where the marauding defender would have been with no one covering. Maybe it is the price we pay for being more attacking.
I have been calling for another striker, but I was more impressed by Sodje yesterday and Dallas is a half decent striker. You can’t really complain about Pressley while he is scoring. I would imagine the midfielders will add a few goals once they gel with the forwards and each other. The defenders will probably add a few goals throughout the season so if we didn’t get another striker in we could probably manage.
