He is very much used as an outlet now, the amount of times he gets the ball is ridiculous.
As I said yesterday, I want everyone to get behind Pressley as I really think he’s a confidence player. If people get on his back I can’t see him being the type to want to go out and prove people wrong, I think he’d just go within himself and not perform.
That said, I don’t think a lot of the fans criticism is actually aimed at him. I think it’s probably frustration with never signing a goalscorer, the fans are desperate for one, and one that we can actually call our own. If we suddenly signed a proven goalscorer at this level tomorrow and he played alongside Pressley I genuinely think fans would suddenly get off his back.
Not saying it’s right, but that’s how I see it. As I said before though, let’s try and make it as easy as possible for him and performing well by keeping off his back.
Hes a bit of a hangover from Sadler which is unfortunate for him.
I dont think he is a great “footballer” , which can make him frustrating to watch, but if we stick it on him in the box he will score goals. In an ideal world we would add another forward but i dont think that will happen with Sodje and Dallas in the ranks.
Pressley has himself to blame also, he had chances and was woeful at times.
Hopefully this form continues and Grant is the man to get the best out of him.
Not seen it mentioned by anyone else but 6 of our 7 goals so far (and arguably the other one too) have come from crosses by our wide men (wingers and FBs) - Browne, Hancock, and Smith yesterday, Smith at Bristol, and 2 from CC at Gillingham (was his assist for Connolly’s goal meant to be a cross or a shot?)
How many of our goals last season came from crosses?
BTW Not knocking it, but do we need central midfield to start chipping in with a few killer balls?
Who are they playing killer through balls to if Pressley is our striker? There have been some lovely through balls to our wide players. Browne to Clarke yesterday for one example, I think it is just how we are set up to play.
It’s not a bad way to go at home, because a lot of teams set up with low blocks and congest the middle.
“What’s that Skip we’re on exactly the same points after 3 games as last year and Presley is on 2 goals in 3 games in the league, also the same as last year.
It’s deja vu all over again.
Although he’s still a terrible forward to some.”
Didn’t see this game but if it was anything like the previous 3 of the 4 we’ve played we’re going to be fine and in contention all season.
Looking forward to hearing about how bad we are for the first half of the next game, which seems to be the new format for the match threads.
Oh, if you’re the two miserable sods in the block 3 upper near the back … you absolutely can. Spend the entire game moaning and don’t even bother to celebrate when we score. Embarrassing
Nice to see the old Kangaroo (no innuendo meant). Did he sort out your IT problem?
Server/webhosting issue resolved.
But now I can only send but not receive emails. Hopefully get that sorted through Microsoft/BT tomorrow.
The positive is that I’ve had the minimum of people bothering me as I can’t see any of their crap.![]()
On a bank holiday?
The BT business help is based in Scotland, no August Bank Holiday there. They save it for January 2nd.
Agreed. Browne looked dead on his feet in the last 10 of that first half. He wasn’t limping, but was spent. Hands on knees gasping at one point. I just wonder if he’d been ill?
Maybe , he was definitely not right.
On the extended highlights, the commentator said Grant went back Ipswich to coach after leaving Huddersfield last season. I hadn’t realised that.
