Walsall FC to acquire Poundland Bescot Stadium

As a caller on WM said, they’ve again done well to keep it under wraps right up to the official announcement. Like with the Pomlett and Trivela purchases, not a whisper until it was all done.

What a fantastic day not only do we now have our Walsall back, we’ve also got our ground back, and control of our football club off Bonser.
A great, great day, never imagined it would happen…but it has…we own our own stadium!
Now on to promotion out of this awful league…onwards and upwards.
UTS.

Are we goung to be any better off financially though? Wont it just be a case of instead of paying rent to Bonser we will be paying mortgage payments to an American bank for a long long time?

Shows that they are all trusting each other internally and all on the same hymn sheet. It’s a big thing to keep anything under wraps these days especially with social media and being able to let things slip under an alias etc.

It’s been stated that the debt repayments are less than the rent so there is a saving there but more importantly those repayments are going towards complete ownership of the freehold rather than lining a landlord’s pockets.

Indeed, and eventually those payments will end.

Today Trivela have earned a huge amount of respect from me, especially Boycott and Hill. Obviously the opportunity to get the freehold deal done way ahead of schedule was incredibly important and hugely significant to the club, but I’d like to highlight not just their commitment to fly over here being away from their families so close to Christmas but also that they’ve taken the time to visit local foodbanks and support the community when they could have easily, and justifiably, taken that time for themselves. Just incredible commitment.

When we moved to Bescot in 1990 the arrangements were a disaster with the club, (staff etc), ground, (fixtures and fittings) and land all being owned by separate entities. Anyway that’s how I remember it. Finally club, ground and land are united which is how it should be. I’m raising a glass to this historic moment and recognise the work Leigh Pomlett has done in making this happen. He hasn’t been the arrogant narcissist that plague many clubs and has a humble chairman, playing a part in finding someone who can finally resolve what was a mess.
I would like to see the details of the arrangement that has been put in place; loan, repayments and term. But this is a great leap forward for us and it’s back to the future; one club!

Yes.

Repayments cheaper.

Not paying dead money.

The land/ground will go up in value.

Any improvements should increase value

If we are say paying £350k p/a on a mortgage rather than £500k+ in rent, that £200k is a huge boost to our budget

Would be great to rip the bonser suite sign down now . And replace it with the pomlett suite.
He put his money in (when he didn’t have too) and delivered on a promise many thought was not possible. :clap:t2::clap:t2::clap:t2:

Excellent Christmas present. No more money to the leech. Well done Walsall.

Maybe it’s a generational thing, from Twitter in response to me slating Bonser

“Tbf to bonser he saved us from the brink, took the piss once we were back on our feet but there’s a good chance we wouldn’t have a club now without him”

The Bonser as saviour and number 1 fan narrative has been blown to pieces numerous times. Vile leech and all traces of him now need removing from the Club and ground.

Took us from the brink with a motive.

I wouldn’t object to the Pomlett suite.

I’d imagine we will be in the longer term even if in the short term there won’t be much in it.

Difficult to know without knowing how much we’ve brought it for but if it is £8m, a 40 year mortgage at 5% would be around £40k a month so pretty similar to right now.

But if we’ve stuck a deposit down or it is less than £8m then we’ll be up. Plus of course we lose the current index linking so what could have been an annual rent of £750k in 10 years will still be around a £450k mortgage repayment with us having built 25% equity on whatever the ground is worth in 10 years rather than still having nowt.

Therefore it feels like a very very good thing on a very good day for the club. That the previous chairman has grown so wealthy on this sticks right in my craw.

But this is moment of liberation. A club reborn. Reborn in the USA.
