I haven’t seen a police dog display at a match either since I dunno when. In fact I wonder if any fans under the age of about 45 will have any idea what I’m on about.
I agree about brass bands, give us a reason to get to take our seats at five and twenty to three, as @KingCrod advises.
I thought the Bhangra band we had earlier this season were brilliant too. I forget which match it was, but it wasn’t one of our bigger crowds. Would love to see them play here in front of a 6/7k attendance.
We did once have the Moody Blues playing as a warm up band before kick-off. That is such an outlandish thing to do that I wonder if my memory is playing tricks on me but I am pretty sure they did. It was their first incarnation, with Denny Laine.
My 3rd game, the first 2 being Grimsby and Bury on the preceding Tuesday and Saturday to get the vouchers necessary to buy a ticket for Newcastle. We won the lot and I thought it would always be like that.
I was in the enclosure that day, one of perhaps half a dozen at most games I watched from there.
I was down the right end for the goal, not quite level with George but not far off.
I’ll always remember that header from George Andrews. In fact that’s the header that I compare all centre forward headers to,and there aren’t that many that compare favorably these days.
Yes, the photograph capturing the moment was on the front of a programme soon after. I think that @Fellows1926 has posted it on here before.
I have a copy in The UK
That’s right- there were some negative quotes from him about us in the newspapers. Apparently the cuttings were pinned up in the dressing room as motivation- and we know the rest.
My second game. Bury being the first. In the end didn’t need a ticket to get in to the railway end due to them opening up the exit gates due to the crush!
