Walsall summer transfer review

In our latest episode, we rate every one of Walsall’s signings as well as looking at the transfer window as a whole.

We discuss how the squad is shaping up now that Mat Sadler has had three windows, something a single manager at Walsall has not had for a long time

Will listen to this one in the morning Gents on my drive down to Rushden. No Diamonds no more though

Hope you enjoy!

You might need to change lakins rating after the last couple of games. I agree tho. The lakin we got against birmingham and cheltenham is the one i hoped we had signed

I was giving the club endless stick in early August so only fair two months on I come back and say I got it wrong.

Barrett looks one of the best signings this club has made for years.

Always a question mark if non league players can step up as had plenty in the last five seasons who haven’t for various reasons but he’s involved in nearly every goal in some way.

Him and Taylor in the backline are going to make this club plenty of money in a year or two, let’s hope when they leave it’s with the club back in mid table in league one.

Lowe also exactly the type of CF needed. Excellent so far with more to come so really the club have found great replacements for Liam Bennett and Draper who were big hits in previous seasons.

Jellis really looking the part now. Again example of what the club should be doing, picking up emerging players from local clubs with good scouting.

Adomah showing his class. Doesn’t need to start every game but a great option off the bench.

More to come from Cleary and Hall as the season goes on given their potential.

I’d rate this window as a success for the simple reason Josh Gordon is just seen as another signing rather than the “marquee” one he was presumed as during July. If Josh can get fit and contribute more that will be great but he’s just an additional player now rather than the one everyone is pining their hopes on which was the case two months ago.

We’re starting to make signings that other clubs like Peterborough seems to make but not the ‘old’ Walsall. Those with potential that need a bit of polishing before moving on and making a few quid - William’s, Allen, jellis, Barrett etc

Marks on recruitment this season 10 out of 10

AFC Rushden and Diamonds use the old Rushden Town ground at Hayden Road. 5 miles from where I live.

Yeah I know where that ground is, Nene Park is demolished but still has signs around directing people to the stands etc…. :joy:

All recruited from other clubs, but Taylor Allen is Walsal born, Jamma raised here, and Pop Larkin started out here in our youth programme. Do they count as “one of our own”?

Hornby too

Another Rushden connection. Pop Larkin, character from Darling Buds of May written by H E Bates who was born in Rushden.

I also lived there for
few years. Only went to Nene Park once to use the Doc Marten outlet shop.
