After a short break, we are back to chat over Walsall being top after ten, and whether it is time to start believing. We chat through the reasons to be excited, and the reasons not to get too ahead of ourselves.
As Harley says in the episode… we can’t keep this going… can we?
Interesting reading there and seeing how we have simply dominated with so many teams just stalling where they are. One team to note, who have really bombed on, is Salford. They have won 5 out of their last 7 games and put themselves firmly into the promotion picture.
A Quick Look at the history of promotion in the last 20 years
Anyone with 89 plus points since 2004 has gone up. 11 out of the last 20 seasons 89 points wins the title. That’s 13 wins from now till the run in 24 games
82 points has been the average since 2004. That makes it 11 wins from 24 games
No doubt @Semaj graphs are better at depicting this journey.
With the season being halfway gone it would take a team thats already on 37 points to do what we have over the 1st half just to get to the 87 point mark, and I can’t see any of them doing that.
Can see this year needing a relatively low number of points to get auto promotion, or win the title.
Reckon over 76 wins you promotion, and over 81 for the title this season.
Agree with the sentiment. Some years there are 3 or 4 teams who roll almost everyone else over and snaffle up loads of points. This season there is only one outstanding team and probably 12-14 teams capable of the playoffs or autos, thereby taking points off each other. Lots of draws as well.
I reckon we will need around 38 more points to win it, which from here on in should be comfortable from 24 games.
1.375 per game. Which over a season would get you around 52 points which is relegation form almost.
We were way better than that last season with a team no where near as good as this seasons, not only in terms of players we have but the overall system that is working so well and probably the best team dynamics that I have ever seen at Walsall.
I know we are Walsall but we surely can’t blow this now.
A maximum 18 points from our last 6 games. Take those away and we’d still be in the top 10, just 5 points off the playoff spots, 6 from automatic/top, have the second best goal difference, and 6-7 games in hand on those above us. Even without the games in hand, I guess quite a lot of fans would have bitten your hand off to be in that position by this stage of the season, never mind where we actually are.
