WFC Best midfield ever?

I assumed they were talking about best midfield playing together

As a footballer Frederick Bianchallni when we were in the Championship. Thought he was a fantastic footballer.

But O’Connor and Keates do take some beating as it goes in the Bescot years

Jimmy McMorran and Alan Baker in a 424 anyone?

Ah fair enough, although Merson played up front most of the season. In fact he spent most of it on the halfway line with his hands on his hips, he was a great player but not really for us, other than the first game which was obviously sensational.

Just seen this from a while ago. Alan Baker and David Preece together in a 4 in the middle. Baker, total class!

I mean Samways … what a player. I had a season ticket that year I don’t think I saw him lose the ball or play a misplaced pass. Like a Vampire time slowed down when he had the ball.

His disappearance that season affected us more than losing Merson.

Alan Baker, I was friends with his Brother Dennis. Unfortunately he did not make it but playrled in lower Scottish football.
If wingers in the old days could be called Midfield, the Taylors, Brian and Cannonball Colin.

Shakey. Was A class act for us.

Closely followed. By. Alan baker and mini preece

I think it will always be Martin O’Connor for me. Probably not as technically gifted as the likes of Mini Preece, but he was like two players rolled into one in midfield. He was the best player at the club in several spells for us. Probably the best penalty taker I have ever seen, also.

Special mention for Keates as well. I’ve only seen us promoted 5 times and he was part of 3 of them.

Alan Baker was class. We have had so many good midfield players over the years but I always remember Preece, Childs and Shakespeare as my ā€œholy trinityā€; great days

Believe it or not I have actually seen Wrack’s name mentioned on here in a Walsall worst 11! It was some years ago.

The bloke was class for us, especially the 98/99 season. Jimmy was unbelievable in goal but I still reckon Wrack should have won player of the season not just for us but the entire league.

Madness ! We’ve had some real dross over the years. Wracky ain’t even close to our worst 11.

Definitely not. He’d be in my best 11. Can’t think of a better right winger we’ve had than him.

In my lifetime supporting Walsall Peron is the best player to grace a Walsall shirt, he was class! If it was a midfield 3 of players I’ve seen it would be:-

Peron, O’Connor, Samways
