Sadler’s property empire has taken a bit of a hammering since the budget.
On the plus side… Sadler’s proved he’s a better P.E. teacher than Danny Cowley.
MorroccoMole and WestieJack bought a season ticket together and happily share a bag of worms at half time.
Nonesenx123 left to become a full time armchair supporter of Hednesford Town and is known for his rants of ‘wheres the money gone’ and ‘this wouldn’t have happened under Jeef’
CompletelySaddled transferred to Bristol Rovers forum as CompletelyGassed, although happily, he makes the odd loan appearance for us. Who said we only rely on cheap under23 cast offs or has beens?
Oh, and something specials happening with our club this year and its a very enjoyable ride.
decent RWB in Barrett
decent CM options and addition of Jellis
decent striker in Lowe… and Matt regaining some form
decent central defence options and Williams development
Putting a plan together that puts the right people in the right roles and giving the club a script to work from.
Excellent additions in the board room.
Ben Sadler.
Richard O’kelly.
A manager and Coaching staff who care about the club.
Targeted recruitment and forward planning.
A talented hungry group of players who wear their heart on their sleeves and are genuinely good people with a good connection with the fans.
The fan base who can see we now have a club to be proud of and starting to back them in numbers and i love how we go a goal down and we get louder and more supportive long may he continue.
A number of people I’ve spoken to have suggested that losing what was on paper our best player has helped us. On the one hand i’m not sure how that can be so, but on the other hand we do play well as a team, whether we would if he was still here or not we’ll never know.
Combination of things all occurring roughly at the same time. First results of the season will have got the squad to buy into how they are set up to play, and will have given confidence in their own abilities.
Jellis and Williams have really stepped up so far, Stirk is consistently reliable every game and Lowe has been an excellent loan signing. We have decent back up in the squad and the players seem really fit and are conditioned to play Sadler’s system.
LP getting Trivela onboard was the turning point for me.
They then set about bringing us out of the dark ages.
The appointments made by Trivela have now started to show results. I couldn’t make my mind up about MS but the togetherness of the squad and never say die approach they show is in my opinion down to a young inexperienced manager proving what a very astute decision it was to give him the reigns.
I’m watching exciting football in a great atmosphere and it’s so good to be in the ground feeling a part of this transformation.
I’m not sure that even if another club do come calling Mat Sadler would walk away, the impression I get is that loyalty is high on his list and he wants to finish what he’s started.
Excellent appointments in the board room - Ben Sadler and ROK.
Investment in the squad. Anyone remember our forward line under Dutton? - I remember in the relegation season it was Cook, Ferrier and Gordon and that was league 1. Now we’ve got Lowe, Jamma, DJ, Cleary, Uncle Albert, Gordon with DJT to come back in possibly in Jan - 7 strikers? Bringing in the likes of Barrett and Jellis! - this squad is crazy good compared to before Trivela.
I like Sadler - I’m definitely onside and a fan of his after being quite sceptical of the appointment. However - I do wonder how Matt Taylor, Darrell Clarke or Mickey Flynn would have got on with this squad, and if they aren’t looking at Mat Sadler with quite a lot of envy as they were never supported the same way.
On the pitch I think Paul Cook summed it up after the Chesterfield match when he said we had “square pegs in square holes.”
Off the pitch we have owners who are looking long term and not just concentrating on a monthly rent cheque.
I’d never knock Hutch, he was brilliant for us, and I’d rather we still had him in an ideal world. Saying that, if we were offered a straight swap, him for Jellis, I’d say on yer bike. Jellis has been so much better than I ever expected. We have missed Hutchinson’s corners a lot though.
It was said by a lot that we needed a wing back on the right who could put a ball in. Probably part of why Matt has done better too. Barrett again is better than I expected, not only can he put in quality balls of different kinds, he can beat his man often. I reckon Hutch would have scored a few more though if he had someone capable of pulling the ball back sometimes.
I wouldn’t underestimate how Harry Williams has stepped up either.
Hutch made us too 1 dimensional for me get it to him let him have a shot we was too easy to play against the amount of times he could have slipped an easy ball to someone in a better position last season was ridiculous yes he scored a lot of goals but playing that pass 5 times out of ten puts doubt in the defenders mind should i block the shot or go with the runner and had he played this pass more often i reckon we as a team would have scored more and hutch personally would have had a few more as more often than not his shots were blocked
