AFC Wimbledon (A) November 23rd, 3pm

Have a look at this. The pictures are quite interesting. I have looked at this and the highlights and I cannot tell if Jamma took out the man at the near post to stop him intercepting Okagbue’s cross.

No. I don’t think he did. I think the defender was sliding to try and cut out the cross.

So will we.

Bit early for drinking?:grinning:

That was what I persuaded myself…

Reflections on yesterday: a proper gritty away win , the sort that gets you promotion . Determined and resilient .

We were under the cosh for longer periods than we are used to . And let’s be honest we rode our luck - the ball ping ponged in our 6 yard box plenty .

But I think we were due a day like that - both Chesterfield away and Crewe at home in recent memory we only got a point but felt like we deserved all 3 ; whereas yesterday we couldn’t have grumbled at a point .

I’ve been very critical of Simkin but he was decisive and strong yesterday- really good .

So much good goes through Stirk … he’s pivotal to how we play .

And as for Lowe aka David Kelly , what a gem of a signing . Fingers crossed we have him until the end of the season .

Great assist from Dave . Personally , he still worries me defensively and i would love to see Mecentee back there but what great problems to have .

In football the walk outside the ground is an underrated concept. For the last few seasons it’s been thoughts of ‘why am I doing this’.

My son is 21 and apart from Wembley and the almost of 15/16 he’s had no success watching Walsall. I remember the feeling of Accrington and Shrewsbury when we were relegated and we were two of the few at Scunthorpe, the lowest I’ve felt in my 47 years of following Walsall thinking we were consigned to non league football.

In honesty, I nearly didn’t renew this season. Back to back seasons of Flynn and Sadler ball killed my love entirely. I only renewed because Saturday 3pm is the only time me and my son get on!

The comparison to the feeling of us walking out of Wimbledon yesterday was unbelievable. It was a ball ache to get there and back but it was worth every minute to watch a team that seems to get it.

I’ve been hasty to get excited about this team but I’m afraid I am now. This team is the real deal. I think we will be right up there come the end of the season. UTS

Just watched the extended highlights.

Simkin doesn’t get much protection from the referee. I’m sure there are a few fouls in there. All Jamma has to do is breathe on the goalkeeper and they get awarded a freekick.

Simkin appears to be being targetted by the opposition.

He got penalised for the same thing when we scored at Accrington. Win some lose some.

Don’t know what the fuss about Jamma is during the goal - he did what a striker should do and get goalside of his man to gain an advantage. He did, but couldn’t get in the end of the cross. There’s no dark arts, just standard forward play.

The difference from previous seasons is that we had 4 players attacking the spaces in the box when Okagbue looked up. In previous seasons that number would’ve been 1, 2 at a push. If Jamma missed it, which he did, Lowe was there. If neither Jamma or Lowe had got ahead of their men, Lakin and Jellis were there as options.

It’s great to see and obviously confidence plays a big part, but it does make you question why our teams don’t always do this in attacking situations.

I’ll be disappointed if we only get 83 points tbh. May need 85-86 for automatic promotion and possibly 90 to win the league.
This team is auto promotion all day long

I think we will get 88 points, which will be enough to make sure we are up before we go to Crewe last game.

Is that the Stirk who is shit according to some (well one) or someone else?

Thought he was magnificent yesterday . A big reason why we won

Last season Sadler got quite a few pelters about Stirkley, but it was a main reason why we got over the line yesterday.

83 points has been the random number needed for third place in my brain cell for the last four years and based on actual 3rd places it’s a comfortable number that should see a team automatically promoted.

I actually believe this team if it carries on could be destined for a 100 point season but for now even this scavenger of a bird will settle for 83 points and 3rd.

Below are the 4th place points since 2017/18, you get more than 4th your 3rd right. It is a surprisingly low target , it seems the top two or three usually pull away let’s hope we’re one of the two.

17/18 Exeter 80pts
18/19 Mansfield 76pts
19/20 Cheltenham 64pts (36 games)
20/21 Morecambe 78pts
21/22 Northampton 80pts
22/23 Stockport 79pts
23/24 MK Dons 78pts

That’ll be fun with that absolutely embarrassing youth firm they have :rofl:

One of they key ingredients for the success of this team is Jamie Jellis. What a find that is. Gives so much energy and battling qualities. I would say he is looking like he could have a good career higher up the pyramid.

Connie as well, with a bit more development could go on to have a successful career. What a change to more recent years where we have tried to make do with players not even up to L2 standard.

Good work by the club
