A day like cardiff please
I was so disappointed when we got to the final of the playoffs and it wasn’t at Wembley, the home of football as we knew it then, and where every big game was always played, and I’d never been before.
But the Millenium Stadium final was a special day in different ways, it was a first , and somewhere no one else had had to go to be part of a playoff final { other than the other teams in the play offs that season of cause that is } so that will always be a special day, and even more so that we won and got promoted.
The game when we actually managed to make it to Wembley and play Bristol tities was such an anticlimax, I’m convinced we will make a better fist of it this time round.
UTFS
After the shite we’ve been through, I actually think it’s our time.
3-1 Walsall
I hope so mate
I think it’ll be very tight. 0-0 or 1 each AET and then pens.
Just relax!
This has to be 4-2 doesn’t it, just lump on!
Who’s the ref?
VAR will be interesting with the fouls on Jamma.
I think the first goal will be crucial. Whoever gets it will be able to sit in and catch the other team on the counter - basically what each team is comfortable in doing.
I think they’ll come out strong from the first whistle, which in some ways may play into our hands. As long as we stay strong at the back and look to use Jellis and Hall on the break, then I fancy our chances of getting a goal. My fear is that if we concede early then it could be a tough afternoon for us.
Overall, it’s 50/50 for me. We just need a bit of luck on the day with ref’s decisions, injuries, the bounce of the ball etc and that’ll probably make all the difference. We are due a fair bit of luck so hopefully Monday will be payback time. UTS!
As we know, their defence is the best in the division so whilst I expect us to be able break them down, I can’t see there being too many goals in it..
2-1 to the mighty Saddlers….
That said, the larger than normal playing surface could suit marauding wing play so Liam could have a potentially big day….
Think the big players on Monday will be Hall and Adomah .
Big games = big players . These two have the technique and ability to do it for us on a big Wembley pitch .
Yep Albert in for Jellis i think
I hope you don’t mean from the start!
Albert is our absolutely best ‘off the bench’ threat and playmaker - in the games he’d started, he wasn’t as effective (imo…)
Look at the impact he makes coming on for 20 or so minutes..
Agreed . Would have him on at 60 mins though
I think some of the issue stemmed from playing him up front for some crazy reason. After last Friday, who could possibly see him as anything but a wide player? Pin perfect crosses for both goals.
VAR can only intervene in certain circumstances.
It would surprise me at all if we have a goal disallowed cos of Jamma’s pulling and pushing. We’ve already had a couple at least this season where others have scored but it has been chalked off, for that reason.
If we win, don’t we get a trophy?
We would have got one if we’d gone up as champions but only one we’ve won before, and nothing for second or third, so maybe this was our plan all along?
Adomah has played a few times at Wembley, perhaps Matt aswell in one of his promotions?
Really need those two to be doing half of Sadler’s work this week so the younger players won’t be dazzled by Wembley and freeze on the day.
Will be the same for Wimbledon aswell, have they played at the new Wembley since it opened as they were promoted to the league at Man. City’s ground in 2011.
Vale got something for going up.
Yep walk up the steps to collect medals and collect a play off trophy.
I think promoted teams get a trophy and medals. I’m certain we got one for finishing second in 98/99. Maybe 3rd place doesn’t, I’m not 100%.
Anyone else think this might be a bit too much for Jamma? I’m just worried that he will struggle on the Wembley pitch. I suppose if we get bodies around him for support it could work. I guess as long as Sadler subs him early like on Friday it would be ok.
Could be a day made for George Hall I feel. We’ve seen how explosive he can be on the counter attacks, I think that’s a reason for Wimbledon to be cautious. As soon as chesterfield started playing in our half we exploited them and carved them open on the break.
Very interested to see how it will pan out. Agree on Albert being best for the last 20/30 mins though and not up front!
